Getting inbox copied to Local Folders - Unable to set path error

Hi,

In Thunderbird (fresh install of 115.01) on Win 10,

I'm trying to set my (pop) Server Settings Local Directory to:

C:\Thunderbird\Profiles\rxd7d4d1.default\Mail\Local Folders

that is where years of my prior emails are stored. I can see them in the Local Folders.

I'm just trying to make my Verizon mail save locally into that location also.

However, I get the error:

The Local Directory path "C:\Thunderbird\Profiles\rxd7d4d1.default\Mail\Local Folders" is not suitable for message storage. Please choose another directory.

Why exactly is Thunderbird choking on that path? What can I do about it?

This is the path where all my history is stored. I moved there from the Appdata/Roaming area, which has the same problem!

Many thanks to anyone who can provide a precise answer!

I use both Thunderbird and Outlook for my cox.net email account. I can receive incoming emails using Thunderbird but cannot send emails, and I can both receive and send emails using Outlook. The server settings are identical for both Thunderbird and Outlook - imap with STARTTLS and port 993 and smtp with STARTTLS and port 587. When Thunderbird is unable to send an email, I get a balloon that indicates that the smtp server cannot recognize my email address, which is hklesserjr@cox.net.

Sometimes when I delete a group of emails from my inbox it deleted the entire inbox. It has happened twice now. When it did it yesterday I had 8 emails selected for deletion. When I hit delete it deleted all 2200 emails in the box. When it was deleting them I confirmed that only 8 were selected by looking at the number of selected in the lower right corner of the screen. Worse, when I click undo the delete it does not restore the 2200 deleted but only the 8 that I had selected for deletion. This is a serious bug and has resulted in loss of all my emails over the few years.

As of version Thunderbird v102.13.0 (32 bit) and after upgrading to v102.13.1 I get an error after downloading emails from my gmail account:

"Unable to write the email to the mailbox. Make sure the file system allows you write privileges, and you have enough disk space to copy the mailbox."

I've been using Thunderbird for maybe 20 years now & on this PC since I built it over 3 years ago, this is a new problem that I have not seen before.

Thunderbird is now useless to me. When it connects it starts downloading emails, gets so far & stops with this error. It's now 5:50PM and the most recent email it has is from 07:35 AM this morning. It keeps downloading the same ones over & over again, always stopping at the same one with the same error.

This app is now utterly useless to me.

I receive incoming email on Thunderbird, but cannot send mail. I have used Thunderbird for years, never updated it and this problem just started yesterday (7/25/23). I have gotten an error message saying "login to server smtp.nycap.rr.com failed". I have called my ISP, Spectrum, and ascertained that my email account with them is functioning, so the issue is something with Thunderbird.

Hi,

since I switched to the new version of TB, some of my mails are empty in the preview (just a white screen) and also if I open them normally. Same mails are working fine with other mail-clients (iOS) or the standard version of TB.

Any idea to fix that?

I noticed with the upgrade to Version 115 from 102 that the handling of certain RSS Feeds changed.

I turned on an older computer which was still running version 102, so I was able to do a side by side comparison.

First was that certain feeds had lost their icon. And it did make me wonder why. One screen shot shows the RSS feed index as displayed in the left pane of the application. Old Thunderbird showed the site icons, New does not. 115 on left, 102 on right.

Second was the display of the article content. The other screen-shot shows the content of the feed article. New Thunderbird does not show the page content only a like of text, where-as old Thunderbird showed the page within Thunderbird itself. 115 on left, 102 on right

Considering the behaviour of the same feed and article on two versions on the same day, I can only guess that the processing logic has changed.

I find it to be a big oversight that the project is so mature but still doesn't have RTL support out of the box. The (unofficial) add-ons that supply this functionality are yet to be updated to be compatible with version 115. Isn't it time to make this part of the base program?

I've been a faithful Thunderbird user since the beginning - and continue to use Thunderbird with our company's Microsoft365 deployment

until Monday of this week -- when suddenly I find that my credentials are being refused.

The symptoms

I've read and tried all the fixes proposed in the article at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/microsoft-oauth-authentication-and-thunderbird-202 (restarting thunderbird after each step, naturally)

  • have authorized Thunderbird to our Microsoft365 tenant
  • created and tried registering with a new thunderbird profile
  • have set my security settings to 'accept all cookies'
  • have used the config editor to remove 'oauth2.issuer' and 'oauth2.scope' values
  • I've checked that my account in Microsoft365 has IMAP and Authenticated SMTP enabled

So, since Monday, I've been living in hell, trying to pretend that the Microsoft Outlook app for macOS is useable, but it's practically debilitating to be forced to use that piece of software.

Can somebody please point me to another possible set of steps that I can use to try and diagnose this?

I absolutely hate myself for having to ask for help on this, but I'm at my wit's end...

I'm using Thunderbird: 115.0.1 (64-bit) Windows 10 I have four different email accounts and have been using Tbird for years- no problems.

Last week, ONE account is having password issues. When it starts up, it will pull mail for all the accounts without issue. I can send email on all accounts with no problems.

But once I'm on the "check email every xx minutes", everytime, this one email account prompts me THREE times for the password.

If I click to check messages manually on that account, it pulls email with no issues. I downloaded and installed this latest version and it didn't fix the issue.
