I have been using thunderbird very actively and happily for years now. However, it seems I have hit a brick wall.

I have setup a new computer using CentOS8 and installed the stock thunderbird version 68.9.0 (64-bit) I have setup two of my mail accounts successfully already. However, the third one, my work email account (I work at CERN), is giving me trouble.

When I enter my name, address and password into the wizard, it tries to search for settings. However, instead of the correct addresses of the IMAP and SMTP servers (imap.cern.ch and smtp.cern.ch), it suggests "outlook.office365.com", probably as a result of the fact that it also searches for Microsoft Exhange servers and CERN used to have some of those in the past (they are being phased out now).

Since I know the credentials anyway, I can enter the IMAP and SMTP server addresses by hand, alongside the authentication methods and ports (SSL for IMAP, STARTTLS for SMTP). Now I click "Re-test", but I just get "Thunderbird failed to find the settings for your email account". I know for a fact that the credentials are correct, as I can sync just fine from my private laptop (thunderbird on archlinux) and my phone (gmail on android). This leads me to believe that the problem is indeed on my side, and not a mere server configuration issue. It is possible that the problem does not come from thunderbird, but from some underlying piece of software (e.g. openssl, my system security settings, or perhaps even the wired network I'm connected to on this computer,) - but the thunderbird output is less than helpful.

What can I do to get a more precise description from thunderbird as to why the setup of my email account failed and what I can to do fix it?

I am running Thunderbird 78.1.1 on a Mac (OS 10.13.6 = High Sierra). I've been using Thunderbird as my email client for over a decade. On Monday Thunderbird asked me to update (to 78.0.1) and after I did that it stopped sending or receiving email via my work account, which is via smtp.office365.com. Thunderbird has frequently been slow via both my accounts, but now it is timing out ~80% of the time to my gmail account and 100% of the time on my work account. I did not change any server or email settings. My ISP is AT&T Uverse, my firewall is the built-in Mac firewall and I turned that off without effect. I am not running anti-virus software, to the best of my knowledge. The error messages I'm getting when trying to send email are

"Sending of the message failed. Peer’s Certificate issuer is not recognized. The configuration related to smtp.office365.com must be corrected."

and the same thing using the gmail server: "Sending of the message failed. Peer’s Certificate issuer is not recognized. The configuration related to smtp.gmail.com must be corrected."

Two screenshots of my smtp settings are attached.

Thanks for any guidance!

I just did a fresh installation of the current version of Thunderbird. Other machines on our LAN are sending and receiving fine with identical settings, but this machine can only receive mail, but sending gives this error:

Clean windows 10 OS install Thunderbird new install version 78.1.0

I tried lowering the as suggested [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/que.../1295861|here], but that didn't appear to change anything.

Hi Forum Folke,

Trying to make a purchase from Steam; click, click, click, get to the payment page, where I select "PayPal" as the method of payment. Get another screen that confirms proceed with PayPal; I click on "OK," and nothing happens. What's *supposed* to happen is a little popup window should open up with the PayPal login, I log in, wade through the selections, and make the payment. What *actually* happens is nothing at all. Click on "OK," and there's this "blink" and that's it. No other change to the page I'm looking at, no PayPal, no nothing... and if I persist in trying, Steam gets all uppity and tells me I've been trying to make too many purchases, try again later. Chrome handles the above scenario without any problem whatever, so the problem is not with Steam, it's with FireFox. Where should I be looking or what should I be looking for that might be preventing FireFox from doing what it should be doing? Thanks... I'm not sure what system info you need to diagnose this issue; if you'll let me know I'll be happy to dig it up and provide it.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure I can rule out my anti-virus, as again, it lets Chrome do it without problem... just not Firefox. For what that's worth....

A few facts:

  • I have not changed any settings before this began
  • I have various other email addresses pulling from the same IMAP server/port without issue
  • I spoke with the host, they see no issues on their side
  • I have not changed my password
  • I can log into Webmail successfully and pull mail just fine
  • It did connect once and pulled a couple dozen old emails which now have a current timestamp
  • I cleared my cache/history

My only thought now, could it be my ISP?

I am just wondering why FireFox occasionally becomes slow to load web pages. On these occasions, restarting Firefox fixes the problem immediately.

Example, I was just loading the same page repeatedly because of some work I am doing. After about 15 minutes of slow response times, I restarted FireFox and immediately, the page loaded very quickly as usual.

You can see the page where this was occurring at this url: https://legacy-systems.biz/demo/demo.html

Any information etc. would be appreciated immensely.

Have to continually refresh, reload, clear broeser cache, force close app just to get yahoo working properly. Every other site works just fine. You try to reply or compose a message and the letters of getting mixed up as I type and even spacing goes 2 or 3 spaces out per letter even letter start going behind and in front of eachother what the heeeeeck....In any part of yahoo mail when you click to do something it will start load an 1 mil of a second it immediately get stuck or starts loading slow then goes to like a connection lost or server down page which have to refresh 30 times to bring it back up. Another example out of the many is attachments don't want to open after clicking on the paper click (PAGE TIMES OUT) amazing and will get Yahoo didn't save the draft losing everything typed yet all the sudden attachments open then the next battle is trying to get the attachment to go which takes hours just to upload attachments. This problem has been going on for years and happens to a lot of people as I see in other forums. Will continue to surch for an answer till meet a computer mastermind.

My sister have a facebook page with shop that I help her manage, but for some reason lately we can't access the "shop" tab of the page with firefox.

We are getting The page isn’t redirecting properly error. I cleaned cookies and cache, even tried a new private window, nothing. I tried opening in edge and everything worked like no problem.

The page is the following. https://www.facebook.com/hadrastico/shop

We experienced problems both in my workstation and my sister's laptop that also use firefox (latest version, windows 10 up to date).

Any idea? Should I fill a bug or something?

I've used Thunderbird for years. After the most recent update in late July 2020 (78.0.1), Thunderbird no longer works. It will not download new mail. It does connect to the IMAP server but then gets to "checking mail server capabilities" and hangs with the spinning circle indefinitely.

I have not done anything to Thunderbird, I just let it install the update. I did not install updates to any other program on my PC. I'm running Windows 10 on a laptop that is about 4 months old. Thunderbird worked absolutely fine before the 78 update.

I am not experiencing any connection issues or problems with any other running programs.

I have tried the following fixes already: 1. Checking my account configuration and confirming it is correct with my email provider. I have the correct ports listed and correct server names. 2. Changing the timeout setting from 100 to 2000. 3. I am able to access my email on my provider's Web interface so this isn't a password issue. There is no CAPTCHA required either. 4. I checked my anti-virus/anti-malware program (Kapersky). Thunderbird and Mozilla are both listed in the "allowed apps" list. I tried removing them both and re-adding, as well as searching for other variations of Mozilla/Thunderbird to add. I also tried Kapersky's "refresh" function. 5. I tried restarting my computer. 6. I tried rebooting my wireless Internet connection. 7. I tried using Thunderbird's "start in safe mode with apps disabled" function. 8. I tried re-installing 78. 9. I tried clearing caches and cleaning with CC Cleaner.

Nothing has worked. Something in the 78.0.1 update has messed things up. Thank you for looking into this.

No matter what I do, it just eventually happens EVERYTIME. The worst part is that I can't predict when it will happen next time.

For some reason, when I download a file with Firefox (Firefox is currently set to always download files right to my Desktop), and then move it from my Desktop (which is obviously located in C: drive) to my external drive, place it in some folder and after that try to move that folder in the other place, or rename it - I just can't because that folder, or files within it are currently being used by some other program (I'm sorry, what?).

But! The solution is very simple: if I close Firefox and try again - ta-da! The folder is no longer used by anything, and I can do what I wanted to do with success.

This is very, VEEERY annoying! Additionally, I'll add a screenshot showing all of extensions installed in my browser, as well as troubleshoot info (if that might help). Anyone, please, help me fix that!

Since the last update, I am receiving the error message SSL_ERROR_BAD_MAC_ALERT when I access one website that I need to use as part of my work.

It is a trusted site that I have used for many years. The error message above displays and I get the option to retry which usually works, but I lose any content up to that point.

I have contacted the website owners as suggested and they say it is a Mozilla issue. I found a couple of suggestions to fix this on-line, but it did not work.

Can you help?
