Some websites get substituted with a spam site. These sites claim they are checking your computer for viruses. In reality if you click on the pop-up window you install malware. The only way out is to go to the OS and use the task manager to kill Firefox. The next time you try to use Firefox it automatically tries to reload the last pages visited including the malware page. How do I disable the attempt to reload the web pages? If this function is not available it needs to be added to the Firefox program.

I'm trying to use Firefox/Windows with SQUID proxy and Basic authentication. Due to our organization policy we have to use full user's names in international (i18n) encoding (Russian Cyrillic in our case).

Unfortunately, Firefox sends user authentication in Russian Cyrillic (as answer for proxy's 407) in VEIRD chrset encoding.

HTTP request to proxy with authentification: = User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; ru; rv:1.9.2.6) Gecko/20100625 Firefox/3.6.6 Accept: text/css,*/*;q=0.1 Accept-Language: ru,en-us;q=0.7,en;q=0.3 Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate Accept-Charset: windows-1251,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive: 115 Proxy-Connection: keep-alive Proxy-Authorization: Basic EDQ8OD04QUJAMEI+QDpGbHZieQ==

Autorization decoding:

$ echo EDQ8OD04QUJAMEI+QDpGbHZieQ== | base64 -d | od -t x1 0000000 10 34 3c 38 3d 38 41 42 40 30 42 3e 40 3a 46 6c 0000020 76 62 79 0000023

The name:pass entered was Adminstraror:admin (where Administrator is in Russian) The name becomes junk, seems a second byte from the the UTF-8 w/o high bit.

Other browsers, Google Chome as exampe, use UTF-8 for username encoding:

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/533.4 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/5.0.375.99 Safari/533.4 Proxy-Authorization: Basic 0JDQtNC80LjQvdC40YHRgtGA0LDRgtC+0YA6YWRtaW4= Accept: text/css,*/*;q=0.1 Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate,sdch Accept-Language: ru-RU,ru;q=0.8,en-US;q=0.6,en;q=0.4 Accept-Charset: windows-1251,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.3 ===

$ echo 0JDQtNC80LjQvdC40YHRgtGA0LDRgtC+0YA6YWRtaW4= | base64 -d | od -t x1 0000000 d0 90 d0 b4 d0 bc d0 b8 d0 bd d0 b8 d1 81 d1 82 0000020 d1 80 d0 b0 d1 82 d0 be d1 80 3a 61 64 6d 69 6e 0000040

Chrome uses good Cyrillic in UTF-8 as you see.

When I click a download link pointing to an EXE file, how do I run (ie. Open) it directly?

I know this is possible because I have another computer that does allow it, without additional plugins. The only difference is that the other computer started out with a 2yo version of FF and this computer was re-installed a year ago so it started out with a newer FF. Both have been constantly updated to the newest version. With the 2yo version I have always been able to run EXE files throughout the lifetime.

I want to run the stripped version of firefox in background with one application and another full version of firefox for normal browsing. I have created the profile for the stripped version of firefox and loading the same using command firefox -P "stripped" -no-remote/firefox -no-remote -P "stripped". But when I start the full version of firefox by launcher "firefox" than it directly loads the stripped version even used the -no-remote option with profile. So I have created launcher for firefox and used the -no-remote with default profile like "firefox -no-remote". It works when first time I click on launcher but for second click it shows the message "Firefox instance is running, or not responding. close the firefox and restart the system". I have gone through the online available documents that suggests that use the -no-remote option with profile so the default profiles works correctly. But -no-remote option doesn't work with the profile. So is there any way to launch the full version of firefox by launcher on second click on launcher?

When firefox automatically upgraded me to 3.6.4 a lot of the flash stuff I was working on stopped working. The flash files wouldn't even start up. They all worked fine on the previous version of firefox I had. I just downgraded to 3.5.9 and they work fine again. The flash also works fine on multiple versions of Safari, IE6,7,8, and chrome.

When I go to print something, a dialog showing a list of printer options shows up. One of the printers is from an old office. Firefox spends 20s or so trying to query this printer over the network, and hangs in the meantime. I would like to remove this printer from the list, but have been unable to figure out how to do so. Manually removing all references to the printer from the ~/.mozilla configuration files while firefox isn't running has not helped.

I believe there's problem with my profiles since upgrading. How do I fix this? Okay, so I read alot of questions on this but still not clear. I was trying to follow directions on one and lost it and can't find it again because I can't go back - I'm part way to fixing it I think - I found the profiles folder in my finder. (under library, applications support and firefox) Now what do I do? Delete it? and then will it automatically make a new or what?

About a week ago, Firefox started going into "work offline" mode every few minutes, knocking me off my wifi each time. Then I have to go into my list and re-select my network to get back online. I don't have any trouble with my wifi if I don't have Firefox open. Any easy fixes for someone who's not super techy? Thanks.

This morning I started my computer and firefox like normal. When I started firefox is said it was updating even though it didn't ask to update, which is normal for firefox. Then it restarted my entire computer. I haven't been to any strange websites lately and I have Norton, AVG and something else. This SAID it was Firefox, but it sounds like updater.exe is somehow a virus. Does Firefox ever update without asking and then reboot your computer without asking?
