I have Firefox 26.0 installed (though this has happened in previous versions). I have been through all the previous questions about this problem, but none match what I'm seeing. It's happening to others accessing my web site. I have a sample web page that I have up that presents the problem at http://flory.net/gabl/docx.htm.

When I click on the link on the above page (an office 2007 word document .docx), I get a page of gibberish as though it downloads the file as a text document. I've been through all the steps I could find in support to fix this to no avail, including resetting all defaults, etc. .doc works great, but I cannot find anything in the Options/Applications that will allow me to modify/add info to handle neither .doc nor .docx.

I go to tools>add-ons to enable, disable, or manage add-ons. This goes to the Firefox Add-ons site and not to a screen that shows thhe add-ons installed, enabled, or disabled. It seems to happen when I cannot stop persistent actions from an add-on.This condition has happened twice. How do I do this correctly? Is it possible that some add-ones disable this feature. It is a hassle to reset firefox to deal with removing an add-on.

I can not get Java to run. I have tried uninstalling and cleaning the registry and reinstalling. I still get the message that Java is not installed when I go to the website. On the addons page I have always asked as the option yet I am never asked to run Java. If I use Chrome at that website Java runs without any problem. I have the latest version of Java installed.

Yahoo Mail is asking me to add an application (a Yahoo Mail app) for "mailto" links. I don't want it. Closing the notification works for as long a refresh, which means I'd be forever closing the notification, thus I want to disable the notification in about:config but what exactly do I need to disable?

Update. Here is someone with a similar problem: http://superuser.com/questions/363827/how-can-i-disable-add-application-for-mailto-links-bar-in-firefox

Update: is this relevant? https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/navigator.registerProtocolHandler

I am unable to access my GlobeInvestor Streaming Quotes (http://finserv.globeinvestor.com/fcclient8/mainframe.htm) via GlobeInvestorGold.com. When I click on the "Tracker" link on the GlobeInvestor Gold website to access my streaming quotes, I get a pop up with an error stating:

I have restarted Firefox numerous times. I have reset Firefox. I have re-installed Java a few times and I have also updated all plugins. I am running Firefox on my MacBook Pro. If you could provide any assistance, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much in advance.

Hi all,

When at eBay.com using FireFox 26.0, looking at a specific list, hitting the back button returns you the top of the previous page rather than correctly returning you to where you had to scrolled section of the previous page.

In other words, if looking at an item 1/2 way down the list of items and clicking on a an item to view that specific listing, hitting the back button returns you back to the top of the listings vs. returning you to where you were prior to clicking on the specific item 1/2 down the list of items. You then have to scroll down the list or rather, start your search of the page of listings again from the top rather than continuing your search where you left off.

Is there a quick fix? I have experienced this before on new Firefox releases but not recently.

Thanks...

Neil

I have a security camera that records video clips in .mov format. I use Firefox to access the camera's server, which lists the movie files available for download. Each time I select a link, a popup window asks me if I want to Open with "The KMPlayer (default)" or download, and the "Do this automatically for files like this from now on." box is grayed out.

I spent 30 minutes researching this and have tried editing the .mov line in Firefox's applications settings and tried an add-on, but neither made any difference.

I am reviewing 20-30 files each morning and it is very annoying to click OK every time I want to watch the video, when it seems that Firefox should automatically open the video player on its own.

There's no box to enter word/phrase search, and WAY too much product promotion. All I want is a simple to use search engine that has a box to enter in word/phrase searches. Wish now I wouldn't have "upgraded".

Hey. I'm having a rather odd problem where Firefox hangs for about ten seconds while loading the default home page. It has worked just fine for years, and then suddenly yesterday every time I open a new tab or start Firefox (basically anything that would take me to the start page,) I get a 10-15 second hang. I've confirmed this by changing the homepage to the old "http://www.google.com/firefox" which completely fixes the issue. No other pages do it, only the start page.

I've tried safe mode, but I knew it wouldn't yield any results as I've not changed configuration in any way for years. I've tried updating to the most recent version of Firefox, this also had no effect. I tried backing up my profile and resetting Firefox, of course still no effect. Finally I tried completely uninstalling all Mozilla products, then sweeping the registry for any of their keys, then reinstalling it all. Still hangs on the start page. So that this point I just restored my backed up profiles, scratched my head and came here.

The obvious solution would be to change homepage, but I can't let it beat me. =P

Anyone have any ideas? I'm pretty stumped at this point.

I am so fed up with the error message that adobe flash plugin has crashed. You have had two years to fix this problem and all your suggested solutions do not work. I cannot see any alternative but to go back to Internet Explorer. It is so frustrating when I am checking my emails and click on a link to get the same message over and over again. Why is it that this problem only happens with Firefox? It does not happen with Internet Explorer and it does not happen with Google Chrome. Otherwise Mozilla Firefox is great.

I've recently been getting a notice that I need to upgrade my Browser. However when I go to Help , About Firefox in my menu. The pop up indicates I have the latest version of Firefox.

I was wondering if this is perhaps a virus, or a scam someone has tried to pull.

The URL for the update is:

http://www.updating-your-browser.com/Firefox/

and to further incriminate the site The fine print reads

I thought that all expired cookies should be deleted automatically by the browser. but that is not the way it happens in my Firefox (same behaviour for different web-sites).

closing Firefox and even reboot of the computer don't help. the only way to remove expired cookies from Firefox is: by hand (which means I have to choose cookie in Privacy Tab of Firefox Options and press button 'Delete cookie').

well, the good news: expired cookies are ignored by the servers (tested with user script through my virtual server) but for unknown reason still continue to be stored idle in Firefox.

Is that the way it should work?

Running Firefox 26, the recently closed tabs/windows and session restore menu items are greyed out and never activate, I cant even use the shortcut (ctrl+shift+t)

Also, i noticed the firefox homepage search has now stopped functioning, clicking on search just does nothing and even those little mozilla ads that would show under the search bar have disappeared

I thought it was a profile/malicious add-on issue so i did a reset, that didn't work, then i uninstalled, removed personal customizations in the uninstall and did a fresh install of firefox, still the same issues...

Scanned my computer with a deep system scan using up-to-date bitdefender 2013, no viruses

i did not install any of my previous add-ons (adobe's pdf creator was automatically there on reinstall but started disabled) and the sessionstore values in about:config are default and correct

Please help!!
