I've been noticing a consistent issue specifically with Firefox causing my mac to black screen/shutdown involuntarily.

It happens specifically when I use the zoom-in function on firefox web pages (the pinch zoom).

Other times when it doesn't black screen, firefox would sometimes have this pixelated appearance (basically random squares interspersed around a web page at times) after I try zooming in.

Anything I could do to help prevent this problem?

foe helper won't install; i was using the last version; the new window for the Halloween event didn't show up; no update available; i uninstalled/reinstalled to get from v3.2.9.0 to v3.3; it added but doesn't work; either fix the new version or give me back the old version;

and don't say contact helper:

The new version is uploaded but not released by mozilla... Please be patient.

by the way helper won't reinstall at all ... Chrome has already released the version although both were submitted almost simultaneously. In an emergency, you can use Chrome for a few days. github.com/mainIine/foe-helfer-extension/issues/2693

Firefox DRM and/or HDCP causes external monitor to go black for a few seconds

As the title says, Firefox 115.4 ESR and previous versions has DRM or HDCP that causes my external monitor to go black for a few seconds when video is attempted to be played for "some" sites such as MAX and HULU. It has taken me a LONG LONG time to track this down. Here is what I know.

  • This only happens in Firefox, not Edge for example.
  • With DRM off, or Wildivine off, no blank or black screen. FF will not play videos at Hulu or MAX in those cases, but also does not "disconnect" the signal to the external monitor.
  • This is 100% repeatable.

Now I dont want to muddy the waters so someone can point fingers at the issue being somewhere else such as firmware, drivers, etc., but I also want to share as much as I have found.

I am using a Lenovo laptop (my only PC) through a Lenovo Ultradock to an external Dell Hi Res monitor. The issue happens with either DP or HDMI connections. Cables are new, high speed and high quality and have been swapped out several times. Again, ONLY happens with Firefox

But... if the laptop is using the internal screen, it does not happen. So somewhow, perhaps, Firefox with DRM is going out to check the monitor to be sure it will display HDCP and that is when it blanks until FF is sure this will work, and the screen returns.

I am 99% sure of all this after updating video drivers, dock firmware, etc, etc, etc.

Can you help? I'd appreiate solving this one.

~Bob

I'm trying to set the download location to a different drive, containing the current username. For example, if my username is Brett.Michaels, I want my default download directory to be G:\brett.michaels. Other browsers have a variable that is usable like {user_name} however I can only find reference to {home} for Firefox, which does not allow me to alter the drive. I've tried using Windows-based environment variables to no avail. Perhaps I'm missing something?

Thanks!

Hi,

we want to switch our Firefox configuration from file-based (policies.json) to GPO-based. We rolled out the GPO on some test clients and it worked like a charm.

But... It shows that there are some clients which need a second firefox installation for a special purpose, which is not allowed to enter the internet or update itself.

The file-base configuration can handle these to different installations with two differend policies.json files.

Is there a way to accomplish this scenario with the use of GPOs? The GPO-base configuration seems to be global for every client.

At this moment i don't see a solution for our problem. Do you see one?
