Would love to switch from Safari to Firefox on my iPhone. Found Mozilla Help instructions, but there is no listing in the App Store for "Firefox for iOS page." I see only Firefox Private Safe Browser and Firefox Focus: Privacy. Neither shows a Get or Install button. I tried tapping the first icon of these two. When I tap the icon, I see "open this link in external app? with a link. I can click ok or cancel. When I do either of those, it just takes me back to where I was. Please advise...

Hello, all - I received the attached message when trying to install Avast Antivirus. I'm wondering if Firefox might have beeen corrupted in some way, especially because I've downloaded Avast before with no problem. I followed the suggestion and installed it via the Opera browser, but Firefox is my default and I'm concerned. Has anyone had this experience and/or know what to do about it? Thanks much in advance, as always!

Hi there,

I have reset and reinstalled Windows on my computer. Unfortunately, I forgot to take notice of the e-mails in my account which had a color label (important, private, work etc.) attached to it. However, I do have a backup of the AppData-folder. Where is the information about the color labels stored and can I somehow restore it?

All e-mails are stored in the cloud and shown in Thunderbird with IMAP. I just need to get the color labels back.

Best Regards, Peter

Up until now, I have been very happy with Thunderbird. I have used it for many years and always accepted upgrades when offered. However, the upgrate from verison 68 to 78 has been a disaster for me. When I allowed Thunderbird to install the new version, it no longer recognized any of my previous configuration or mailboxes/folders.

I use POP servers and keep all of my email on my local disc. I have between 50 to 100 local folders, many with folders within folders. The upgrade did not find my existing login's for my email services (gmail and Comcast). It did not find any of my existing mailboxes/folders. In fact, it seemed to be a completely new installations, asking for my email services credentials. It did not find any of the many folders I have organized to hold all my old Emails. Those are kept in .MBX files with .TOC files.

How do I recover my old configuration and mail boxes? Is there a program that will convernt my old email folder structure to whatever the new Thunderbird uses? Or do I have to retrograde back to version 68 to keep my old mailboxes/folders?

I am very disappointed that no warning was given about the major changes and significant functional differences before asking to install the upgrade. This problem has cost me over a days work and much frustration. (And just so you know, I am a computer professional/programmer, so I have some idea about what I am doing.)

Hello, I have just received the usual message after installation of an update on my Windows computer. There you can read the following sentence : "Quel que soit votre système d’exploitation, il existe un navigateur mobile soutenu par une organisation sans but lucratif et plus performant que jamais à y installer." I should just want to know how that functions with a Windowsphone? Thank you in advance, Erling

I probably committed one of the biggest mistakes of my life.

A customer of mine had me to reinstall her laptop from Win 8.1 to Win 10 while strongly asking me to keep all her emails. So I carefully backed up her TB profile folder to a usb drive, did a fresh Windows install on her laptop (deleting old partitions and creating only one partition instead) and after installing the newest Thunderbird I restored the aforementioned TB profile to its place. But - it didn't work...

It turned out that I happened to back up the wrong TB profile folder. Instead of the one in ...\username\AppData\Roaming I have successfully backed up the one in ...\username\AppData\Local folder. This seems to be some kind of cache folder of Thunderbird since it has such named subfolders inside (see pic). It's size is ~338M though so I suppose something must be there... Also, it is likely that the old TB version was (much) earlier than that of the latest one.

Is there any chance to extract/restore all/some emails from this cache folder?

  • The email account in question is of POP3 type, it is supplied by her ISP. I have her user/pass and also the proper server addresses to set up the account again, so that is not a problem, only the emails (especially the ones in Inbox) are important.
  • I have also consulted with a technician at the ISP but without any luck. The POP3 mailbox and TB's default way of working leaves no emails in the account itself. Even if they had a backup of the account let's say from last week, there would be probably nothing in it.

I'm really hoping yiou can offer some advice as to how to retrieve the missing folders and address book. Many thanks, Paul Bryden

I did NOT enroll in any FF studies. Yet, moderator Cor-el said the app.normandy preferences will install new features and 'shield studies' anyways. I stopped downloading FF updates after v.84. I wanted to avoid the disastrous change to the print function that showed up on another computer. I spent hours trying to figure out what happened and how to get rid of of it. Nevertheless, Firefox installed this unwanted print 'update.' So my question is whether it is safe to turn off or delete all the app.normandy preferences in about:config ? The notion of losing control of my fifteen email accounts is terrifying. Among other things, it is imperative for me to have use of the Manually Sort Folders add-on that I've been using for years with the whole series of versions up through 68.12.1. Attempting to rebuild fifteen email accounts with what sounds like a wildly different account creation process is basically not going to work. All of the relevant information for each of the accounts is long since tucked away in Thunderbird itself and extracting it to somehow "start over" on a wildly different system is not going to be acceptable. So the key point is this: can Thunderbird v68.12.1 (what I'm using now) be SEAMLESSLY updated to v78.8.0?!? That is, I point at the update (at my choice of timing, absolutely never permissible to allow anything to be updated at some system operator's choice of timing or even *whether* to do an update) and it proceeds and automatically results in an immediately correct and functioning Thunderbird not different other perhaps for some colors and trivial operational changes, but losing absolutely nothing of my existing structures. Can that happen or is this v78.8.0 basically a "whole new world" requiring entirely different approaches to everything?

I haven't made any config or extension changes since it stopped working, and not sure what could be causing this. I don't mind starting from scratch, just need Firefox back. :)

This morning I tried logging into my E-mail only to find my old Thunderbird version has been upgraded to 78.7. Usually I get a notification and the option to install, but this did not happen on this occasion. I checked the versions using 'sudo apt policy thunderbird' and get;

Installed: 1:78.7.1+build1-0ubuntu0.18.04.1~mt1 Candidate: 1:78.8.0+build1-0ubuntu0.18.04.1~mt1 Version table: 1:78.8.0+build1-0ubuntu0.18.04.1~mt1 500 500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/mozillateam/ppa/ubuntu bionic/main amd64 Packages

      • 1:78.7.1+build1-0ubuntu0.18.04.1~mt1 100

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:68.10.0+build1-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 500 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-updates/main amd64 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-security/main amd64 Packages 1:52.7.0+build1-0ubuntu1 500 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main amd64 Packages

The new version did not carry over my old data and all I have is a blank install with no messages, contacts, calendar or anything else.

I desperately need to get into my emails and calendar. Can anyone tell me how to do this, or how to revert back to my previous build without losing anything? This is a real annoyance and there was never any warning at all that my machine was being upgraded, otherwise I would have declined.

Dear all Maybe, someone is able to help me out here:

We're supporting several companies with the following setup: User's are working with an office computer. However, they are also able to work from home via VPN and RDP. Folder redirection is enabled and directs to a network drive.

Since Firefox usually only updates while the application is running, we regularly face the issue where the Firefox profile wasn't able to load on the office PC because it was opened with a more actual version (the one from the Remote Desktop server) earlier.

Is there a way to update Firefox without launching the application first? Preferably from command line so it could become part of the logon script? All I found which looks helpful is the section "Service Command Line Parameters" in https://wiki.mozilla.org/Windows_Service_Silent_Update. However, I wasn't able to get it working so far.

Hi, I have been using Thunderbird for 5 years now, and like it a lot. But I have a problem now.....

My Thunderbird App link suddenly became unlinked. After searching *thunderbird*.exe there is no Thunderbird.exe file on my computer now. I searched this forum with "Reinstall" and the most recent relevant one said all folders and contact lists would update, and I just download the app and follow the steps.

Then when I download and it says I have a new profile. Then the one "What are my Options" is: Do nothing.

Please give the link to the clear instruction, or advise the steps to retrieve my folder structures, contacts, and have the program connect to my yahoo email accounts (same as before). Thanks!

Suggested improvement... It would be very useful to have the forum search engine to be able to refine searches, instead of expand searches: Example: Search "reinstall" get over 100 results. "How to reinstall" gets over 700 results and most not relevant to reinstall. Maybe my thinking is wrong. Thank you.
