I accepted the upgrade of Thunderbird 78 and after that I cannot send emails. I can receive, but not send. I have checked with my provider, RCN and all is well on their end. I have checked with my security NORTON, and all is well on their side, even disabled the firewalls to prove it. So, there is something stopping email on Thunderbird side. I am not a techy person, so I need some serious guidance to know what to look at or to look for. and I am very very frustrated at this time. Thank you.

I am unable to upload the pdf of the snip for you review: It Reads: Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.rcn.com failed. The Server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again.

Thank you for your assistance.

<tools> <Clear recent history> asks whether I want to delete Browsing history cookies cache

I have 7800 entries in cache. Are these "scratch" or "temporary" files or are these files I have kept in folders over a few decades? I want to keep the messages that I put in folders.

Is Browsing history just links to Firefox I clicked on inside messages?

I receive emails addressed to many different eddresses which have been sent to me via a remailer. The To: function still shows the original eddress. I want any emails originally addressed to two specific eddresses to be forwarded to another eddress, one that will be read on an iPad. Is this possible?

Is Thunderbird an "insecure app" from Gmail's viewpoint?

Two recent emails from Gmail state on 30 May 2022 "insecure apps" will no longer work with Gmail. Despite warnings, Gmail don't state if Thunderbird is an insecure app, are they trying to force users onto their clunky front end through fear and misinformation? I have been using Thunderbird as a front end for Gmail for at least 15 years and never had security issues.

Login to Facebook and Nextdoor and probably many more social media platforms can now be done with your Gmail password. Both of those social media platforms have real security issues; therefore I find Gmail's advance warnings contradictory in the extreme.

To reiterate wil Thunderbird be affected, if so can its configuration be tweaked allow continued use of Thunderbird as a Gmail front end after 30 May 2022?

Thankyou, Rich

I have four Gmail accounts linked to Thunderbird and have just had the message from Google about OAuth2 starting in May.

I have read I need to change my server incoming and outgoing settings passwords to OAuth2 instead of normal password.

When I then try to send an email it asks for my Google password which I enter and all is okay. However when I try to use another email account on Thunderbird it again asks for the google password for this account and when I go back to the first email account it hasn't remembered my google password again.

Also to make it even more difficult it won't let you copy and paste the password into the google account.

Have I missed something here and it should remember each google password?

Why is this Thunderbird version so confusing? Doesn't print, can't reply, etc w/o having this whole bunch of tech headers at beginning. What happened to the regular email, print, text, reply features.

Left Outlook due to it's craziness and deciding what to put as spam and in archive vs myself so again thought I'd try Thunderbird as it was a good email program. Now I see why it isn't listed any longer as a good free email program. I have 2 email programs I pay for - Protonmail VPN and Mailfence Entry level. Still learning how to have more than1 email address to use.

Thunderbird used to be very simple, user friendly, and quick. Now it's a mess even when trying to just reply to someeone's email. I get all these 'headers' first and when I select print, I get all this header garbage which wastes tons of paper. Can't find a way around it.

Please help or I'm going to have to dump thunderbird until it gets itself fixed!

I can now see that the question I have asked below has, in fact, been asked several times and so my question is superfluous and I would like to delete it. But I cannot figure out how to delete it and unclutter the database.

How do I delete my question?

I have been receiving the following warning from Google - "On 30 May, you may lose access to apps that are using less secure sign-in technology. To help keep your account secure, Google will no longer support the use of third-party apps or devices which ask you to sign in to your Google Account using only your username and password. Instead, you’ll need to sign in using Sign in with Google or other more secure technologies, like OAuth 2.0. Learn more. What do you need to do?

Email software, like Outlook 2016 or earlier, has less secure access to your Gmail. Switch to Office 365, Outlook 2019 or newer, or any other email software where you can sign in using Sign in with Google."

I have no idea what this means in respect of my using Thunderbird to 'see' and allow me to read my emails in my GMail - it looks as if I may no longer be able to do so.

I followed the 'Learn More' and What do you need to do" links and I was just even more bamboozled. It tells me to use 'sign in with Google' - I'm sorry but that is meaningless to me - I've never 'signed-into-anything-with-Google'; I've only ever used an ID and a password, so I have no idea what I have to do to keep on using Thunderbird.

I think Thunderbird ought to broadcast to its users what the impact of this 'Google warning' will be to its users and provide clear instructions on what we Thunderbird users need to do (clearer anyway than Google's unintelligible garbage) in order to be able to continue to 'see and read' our Gmails.

Ive been using thunderbird for a long time. The last time it was updated I started having issues. For one, on the left of the screen that shows the folders, the inbox showed 2 inboxes. Today it shows 3 (?). The same with the junk folder, the trash folder and the outbox folder. I haven't shown any new mail in my box for several days. When I tried to retrieve it with my password it said that Mail server pop 3.bbtel responded:authentification failed. I called my support at my phone company. Everything checked out fine with them. The problem pointed to thunderbird. Something screwy is going on and I need help to revamp this whole thing.I would like to continue with thunderbird but I need help straightening out the issues Im having.
