There is a context menu entry that enables message fetching for individual folders and an about:config setting for doing it for all folders. There is some speculation in a different question that this is necessary to avoid overloading servers.

Is this true and still appropriate? How can I as a user tell what I can set this to?

From a UX point of view it would definitely be better to just check all folders for new mail.

I recently installed Ubuntu 22.04 and now the address book crashes when I attempt to use it to create an email; thunderbird freezes and give me the window stating 'not responding' and if want to force quit or wait. I end up having to force quit. But I use my address book's saved lists for a number of emails, and now this is not working. How can I fix it? I would need detailed steps, as I am not anything but a general user. Thanks.

I cannot send emails from Thunderbird. I am using MS Windows 10 and my ISP is comcast.net. My email provider uses MS’s Outlook servers. For years I had no trouble using Thunderbird. Even after my email provider switched to using Microsoft’s Outlook servers. But when I subscribed to Microsoft’s Office365 and accidentally opened its Outlook module/application I was no longer able to send out emails. I could of course receive and send emails when I logged into the web version of Outlook, but while I could still receive emails I could no longer send them via Thunderbird. When I installed the latest version of Thunderbird (78.14.0 (32-bit)) I was no longer able to even receive emails. However, when I set up a “new” account (and used the email provider given password, which works at the web version of Outlook) and switched from POP3 to IMAP I was able to receive emails again, but I am still unable to send emails. I have tried numerous settings for my Outgoing Server (SMTP). None have worked. So my questions are: 1. What are the appropriate SMTP settings? I’ve tried so many, so I’m not providing the current ones. I’d like to start with a clean slate! 2. Are there any settings elsewhere that I need to tweak? 3. Why can’t I see (and alter if necessary) my password in my settings? (I assume they are still the appropriate ones that I inserted when I set up my account again.) However, even when I manually insert them after an error message and a form asking for my password they do not work. I’ve tried it with my antivirus and firewall protections (Webroot & Windows) turned off. SC

suddenly Thunderbird email stopped working. I keep getting a request to input and change my password and have done that several time. I also have gone through all the steps to ensure all the info was correct and connected properly. My email works fine when I login through the internet. Passwords are correct, connection info is correct. My emails work fine on my phone. I have uninstalled the program but it had no effect. I am using version: 102.0.2 (64-bit)

I had to add Javascript because one of my accounts need Javascript to open. After installing Javascript and allowing for all to be 'true', I still get this message when I try to open a 'show blocked content' in my email.

"The address wasn’t understood

Firefox doesn’t know how to open this address, because one of the following protocols (javascript) isn’t associated with any program or is not allowed in this context.

You might need to install other software to open this address."

I never had any problem before installing Javascript. Thanks for any solutions.

I was told to reboot my system to complete a Thunderbird update.

After the system came up, my main email account wouldn't display. It was there when I went into account setting but wouldn't show. After closing an opening Tbird several times it showed up. now none pf my filters are running. In some cases it says the folder doesn't exist when it does! Most of the rules are missing actions!

What's up guys???

Error message: "Sending of the message failed. The Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.frontier.com does not support the selected authentication method. Please change the 'Authentication method' in 'Account Settings | Outgoing Server (SMTP)'." Can you help? Was on the phone with Frontier for an hour - they say incoming settings are correct (no problem receiving emails), as well as outgoing. We tested sending an outgoing message from their webmail server, which was successful. Thanks, dbleagle
