I have been using Thunderbird email for numerous years.

At the end of June (2021) I started a summer-long vacation in another state, and prepared a laptop (Win 10) computer for the trip (with Thunderbird installed, of course.

Around July 5th I tried to peruse my email using Thunderbird on the laptop and was unsuccessful.... Zoho kept rejecting my email account password(s).... "login to server imap.zoho.com with username xxxx@xxxxx.com failed" (see attached)

I had the same issue with my account at gmail.com (Google mail) using Thunderbird. I have no other email accounts.

I assumed I had made some sort of mistake in the Thunderbird account settings on the laptop, but I had no way to compare the settings to my home computer (nobody there at my home and I was away on an extended trip)

Zoho was unable to assist me with Thunderbird. I assumed I did something wrong when I configured Thunderbird on the laptop and tried numerous parameter alterations without success.

I am able to access my email accounts at Zoho when I go to zoho.com directly, but compared to Thunderbird their interface is unwieldy and doesn't allow much screen space for email content (and, of course, I'm not able to save read emails to my Thunderbird local accounts).

I just returned from my extended trip and find that I now have the same issues on my home desktop computer, which was working fine when I left the last week of June. It (Thunderbird on my home desktop computer) also, rejects logins to my email accounts at Zoho and at Googlemail. Strangely, I can read new emails in the Thunderbird email accounts, but I am unable to reply to them or forward them.

The only logical explanation I can come up with is that an automatic update caused these issues. In fact, my home computer has a Thunderbird icon on the desktop that I'm not certain was there before (I keep most of my important program icons in program category folders on my desktop and in my quick-access bar at the bottom of my Win 10 desktop screen... so if an icon shows up on my desktop, I assume it is because of a product update). I am currently at Thunderbird 78.14.0 (64-bit).

I am trying to think of ways I can verify that an automatic update caused the issue.

I am able to log in to my email accounts by directly using zoho.com or google.com, but much prefer Thunderbird. I am hoping for suggestions as to why neither of my Thunderbird copies (desktop and laptop) are able to log in to receive email.

Thoughts and suggestions????

My Thunderbird won't open in Windows 7 Pro after installing new RAM. I have tried many of the suggestions I found such as removing the parent.lock file and deleting the Windows cached profile for Thunderbird. I also cannot get it to start in Safe Mode.

I have also cleared the cache and removed browser add-ons in Firefox, and checked my anti-virus (Norton) it does not appear to be blocking Thunderbird. I also used the LockHunter program and it says nothing is locking Thunderbird.

I don't know what else to look at. However I am not a techie, and am not sure I could follow many other steps myself.

Can someone help me?

Regardless of what version and CPU architecture of Thunderbird is installed, the auto updater keeps telling me that it cannot update Thunderbird and suggests that I visit Thunderbird's website to download the latest version.

Searches related to this problem all either involve Avast antivirus, which I am not using (I use F-Secure TOTAL) or very obsolete versions. To the best of my knowledge, I do not have any specific website blocked in my network, apart from Facebook, and despite searching, I cannot find out any debug options to determine the cause of the update failure.

I have tried uninstalling the product and reinstalling it, also changing between 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Currently running 78.9.1 64-bit under Windows in the Release channel.

Each time I create a 'New Folder' under InBox, the new folder does not appear unless Thunderbird is terminated then restarted. This was first noticed when attempting to make a filter, and moving a message to the newly created folder; the folder was not listed as an option. Checking under the InBox an sure enough the folder was not there. Terminated Thunderbird, then restated, checked under InBox and the folder was there. Was then able to successfully create the new filter.

For about a month, google products on firefox randomly stop working.

- I get the "Oops...error #001" in gmail, when i reload it just continues to get an error cycle until eventually it goes to network protocol error.

- Google search randomly does not work at all in the url/search bar, and once it doesn't work the tab is useless. Putting in another URL and hitting enter it appears to have loaded but of course nothing has changed.

- I have no extensions installed.

In most standard Windows applications, the title bar and tab colour follows the default Windows settings, e.g. (in my case) the title bar and tab colour of active application windows is blue. This is true even in Thunderbird. Since FF 89, title bar and tabs are something between white and light gray, which is extremely user-un-friendly. FF developer team should return to the previous colour scheme. Yes, I know the circumstances of free software but this is NO excuse to alienate millions of users. Developers that change fully functionable software just, well, just to CHANGE it should consider that they are doing WRONG. Could anyone tell them? I am just user, not developer and I am not willing to learn developer tools like BugZilla just for this simple guiding principle.

I just upgraded to firefox 92. When I right click on a string I wrote such as : "zaiuryezoyhdsofh" with spell check enabled, Firefox hangs for minutes and my CPU is 100%. It happens only on a string and on every websites, even google search.

I'm able to reproduce in safe mode, but FF doesn't want to crash so no report.

System : Debian Buster 10.

I recently updated my TB to 78.13.0 (64-bit) on Windows. Previously working filters to forward certain emails now cause an error - "The message cannot be put in the (IMAP) sent folder - store in local sent folder instead?" "Retrying" fails, "OK" works as expected. I'll capture this message box as soon as I can.

So it's not really a huge deal - the message is sent, but not stored correctly. This only happens on startup and as best I can tell only while the IMAP account is doing it's initial sync. If I run the filter manually after a short period of time (maybe a minute later) all is well. The messages range in size from ~200k to ~1.5M depending on attachments.

I've put all (3) of the forwarding rules at the bottom of the filter list trying to add some tiny delay, but that doesn't help. Is there a way to delay a filter from running? It seems it's all or nothing, automatic or manual. The "periodically" setting is not required I only get these message once a day, but need to share them right away when I do. Right away does not mean like milliseconds - just quickly - and keeping them in the IMAP folder is better, otherwise I have to remember to move them there from local folders.

Hello,

I am facing a weird issue with my Thunderbird installation. When I am moving up and down my mouse on the account pane on the right of Thunderbird, the app gets slow and increases cpu usage to 80%+. I have tried disabling indexing and hardware acceleration but these didn't solve the issue. I also installed 92b1 version but the problem continues. On the 78th version there was no issue like this. Here I have attached a gif to represent the problem.


PS.: If you see a 50%+ on the utilization on the taskbar on the beginning it is because I was running a gif recorder to make the above animation. It usually runs between 20 - 30 % but when I am trying to select an account to thunderbird it jumps to 89%.

After the most recent update message filters have stopped running automatically. Strange thing is if I go Tools>Run Filters on Folders, then the messages are routed to their respective folders. Curious thing is, this is one of five Inboxes and only one is experiencing this. I'm bumfuddled.

What have I tried? Restarting. Restarting in Safe Mode. Rebooting.

Another thing, if I go to Tools>Message Filters and find/highlight the particular filter, then click Run Filter, nothing happens - but - if I click on Edit the filter, do absolutely nothing but close it, then click Run Filter again, it works.

But the main thing that has me perplexed is from the inbox, manually selecting Tools>Run Filters works. It's like the filters are never being launched automatically when messages arrive. Thoughts?

I have a number of problems with T/Bird which I suspect are all connected: Occasionally an email appears momentarily in in box then instantly disappears and cannot be found in other boxes - drafts, all mail, trash or spam. Some emails by-pass in box to spam but there is no pattern to this. Emails from same source can go to either. Often emails I have sent do not appear in sent or all mail, and some emails I have sent to trash cannot be found. I have followed advice and checked settings several times and as far as I can see they are all correct. Is this a common problem and do you have step by step instructions to overcome this? One obvious answer is to uninstall and re-install T/Bird but being old and not tech savvy I am concerned about losing emails and not being able to start again Thanks

Since before the last update to Thunderbird, it constantly freezes and locks up my whole computer to the point where I have to shut my iMac down with the start button. It has actually gotten worse since the most recent update. I have used Thundirbird for over 10 years and never had a problem with it until now. It also will spontaneously close an email while I am trying to read it. This is very annoying and if this keeps up and I can't find a solution I will change my email program.

I'm having a problem with a couple videos where the video and audio aren't in sync. For example, the video in the first screenshot is only 2:30, yet when I play it, it seems to partially mimic the video in the second screenshot; it "extends" to 2:41, and it plays the video from the second video. However, it plays the audio from the first video and the progress bar still only goes to 2:30, yet the video keeps playing for another 11 seconds without any audio until the video from the second video ends. Seeking forward causes the different recommendations to pop up as if the video had ended normally.

I am using a MSI laptop on Windows 10. I have restarted my computer, cleared my cookies and cache, and updated Firefox to the latest version. This problem persists with all of my extensions disabled, and when logged in or out of YouTube (no matter the account) or in incognito mode. At first, I thought it had something to do with the video and/or channel, since the other video with the same problem was also uploaded by AmericanDadVEVO. When I tried watching the video in the first screenshot on Microsoft Edge (which I barely use and have no extensions on), however, it worked normally.

Any help would be appreciated! I really do not want to switch to another browser.

I've previously installed and had FPN running on two instances of Firefox, one on OSX, one on Windows.

I've recently re-installed my windows machine and cannot install FPN on a brand new install of Firefox. The option to "Add to Firefox" never appears when visiting fpn.firefox.com. I even disabled uBlock Origin and it has changed nothing.

What am I missing?

When accessing my Gmail account with Thunderbird, using IMAP, the progress has become glacially slow. It sometimes takes minutes between steps (sending login information, opening folder, downloading messages) with the whirling blue circle going the whole time. Sending mail goes quickly but the program often times out trying to copy the sent mail to Gmail's sent mail folder. When I access Gmail with a browser I often find extra emails in both folders (and in the "all mail" folder) that I deleted in Thunderbird but the delete command apparently didn't make it to Gmail.

I've tried rebuilding the mailboxes by right-clicking on the mailbox, selecting "properties" and "repair folder." When I do this to all the Gmail folders, this sometimes speeds up the communication, but not always, and never for very long. The problem always returns within a few hours.

I've tried deleting the MSF files from my profile, to no avail.

I've tried restarting with add-ons disabled, to no avail.

I've compacted all my Gmail folders, to no avail.

I've disabled anti-virus checking of the Thunderbird profile folder, to no avail.

This is happening with two different instances of Thunderbird on two different platforms (one Mac, one Windows), and both copies of Thunderbird do IMAP just fine with a non-Gmail account, so I think it's unlikely that this is a problem on my end. Has Google changed something about their IMAP protocol recently? I've been having this problem for about two weeks now. At first it was restricted to the copying of sent emails into Gmail's "sent mail" folder, but in the last five or six days it has been slow with nearly every operation.

The mailboxes in question are nearly empty. I keep them trimmed to fewer than 100 emails in "all mail" and less than 30 in the inbox.

This is the same email account that I've been accessing with Thunderbird for years, and as far as I know I didn't change anything on my end. I didn't install any new software and made no changes to the settings. Things just gradually slowed down until now they're painfully slow.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated. Especially from someone who has already faced and solved this problem!
