Firefox Crashes Above Version 111.0.1

Need some help with Firefox crashing. System: Windows 8.1 64 Bit instilled on a Samsung SSD, 24 GB free space, 24 Gigs RAM, Firefox installed on conventional HDD (G:\) drive, 1.03 TB free space. This has been the standing configuration for many years, working with no problems.

Problems began with FF update 111.0. Any attempt to download files (.jpg or .pdf) would cause the “save” button to freeze, and after a seconds FF would crash. If an attempt was made to change a setting FF would again crash so quickly it was impossible to attempt any changes. Oddly enough, FF update 111.0.1 fixed the issue (or so I thought) and things returned to normal. I assumed whatever caused the problem had been fixed.

Unfortunately, every update beyond 111.0.1 reverts back to the same freezing and crashing behavior. I have attempted the following with all updates above 111.0.1 in an effort to correct the issue. So far nothing has worked. BTW, Brave and Chrome work just fine.

Cleared out all cache and cookies. Changed download folder Opening in safe (trouble shooting) mode Clean install(s) Disabled hardware acceleration. Putting the entire program on C:\ drive (apparently the newer FF installer does not allow custom installations any more). Checked and updated all drivers

Currently I have disabled automatic updates as none of them have the same freeze/crash issue. I am out of ideas and would certainly be glad to get any advice. At this point Brave is going to be my new default browser. Yes, I know 8.1 is no longer supported but I am not in a position to replace this PC at the moment.

Hi there!

Whenever I open Firefox, I receive a notification that suggests I reinstall the browser due to a configuration file error. However, I am still able to use the browser normally and my settings remain intact.

Is there anything I can do to address this notification without reinstalling Firefox? I would appreciate any guidance or suggestions you may have.

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing back from you soon.

Best regards, sander

I want to remove some sensitive info from a pdf before emailing it. So I removed some info from a pdf file by colouring white over the text then printing to pdf. When opening new pdf document with edge or chrome the info is removed however with firefox the info briefly appears before disappearing again. So somehow after whiting out the text and printing to a new pdf file the info is somehow still there??? I would have thought by printing to a new file the new pdf would not hold the text underneath and print "white" blank space... no data behind it, am I incorrect in assuming so?

Dear support team,

I am experiencing a problem with one specific website, zerohedge.com. Whenever I use the back button to return from an article to the home page, the page appears completely blank, and I am forced to refresh it every time. This is happening on the Android version of Firefox, version 111.1.1 (Build #2015941331) with NoScript and PrivacyBadger add-ons installed.

I have not made any changes to the settings, and this problem has only started occurring about a week ago. I have never observed this behavior before.

How do I prevent Firefox from re-opening my last session upon reboot, for example after my laptop dies or I shutdown without closing browser windows? I never never ever want Firefox to restore pages at any time for any reason.

Background: I use firefox for work, and I keep 7 separate firefox windows open to the sites I use to do my job. Because it's a pain opening them every time, I created a shell script (I'm using linux mint 21.1 by the way) to do it. I just double click a desktop icon to launch my shell script and all of my windows open in the order I like them to be in.

Unfortunately, if my laptop battery dies or if I just am in a hurry and I log out without closing everything, then the next time I log in and launch my script, it opens my first firefox window, which then decides to open ALL 7 of the windows that were killed when my laptop shut down, and then my script opens the remaining 6 windows it is supposed to open, for a total of 14 browser windows now open, and I have to close half of them.

What I tried: I googled around and the only thing I could find was the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once settting, which appears to have no effect whatsoever when I restart (my test was to set this flag to false, open 7 browser windows, restart my machine without closing the browser windows, and then launch my script and the result was 14 browsers open instead of 7).

Version: I'm using Mozilla Firefox for Linux Mint (mint-001 - 1.0) with a Firefox version number of 111.0.

Using noVNC to access a wired LAN host on Linux using Firefox v111 uses ~5% CPU on an AMD 5600X. Upgrading to Firefox v112 causes CPU utilization in the exact same use case to jump to ~35% with spikes over 70%. Additionally the responsiveness drops dramatically, and is difficult to use. I've tried a completely new profile with the default settings, and the results are the same. I've reverted back to v111 for the moment.

I got a new machine, and exported from a windows 10 machine running firefox and got a "bookmarks.html " file that was saved to my desktop. I then used a USB drive to put it on a new LINUX box with firefox running on it. something happened with the "other bookmarks" folder in my bookmarks list. It is empty and I cannot access it. PLUS there is ANOTHER "other bookmark" folder on the bottom of the list that I cannot access or select.

The "other bookmarks" on the bookmarks tab is empty (the one on the top of the list). I can't move a URL to it. There is also another "other bookmarks" on the bottom. which I cannot select and therefore cannot get rid of. And I have a link to some place that I also cannot select (and therefore cannot get rid of).

All the bookmarks in my folders and lists are ok and they work. I think the bookmarks list (which I cannot find in the linux file system) is corrupted. How can I find it, delete it, and then try to import my new "bookmarks.html" again ? Using Linux POP-os ver 22. Most recent release.

Had to disable Browser Guard because of problems with far too many websites that I access on a frequent basis (MS Edge works fine). Problems noted:

  • Slow loading of many website page.
  • Firefox often hangs up (cannot close webpage) when loading websites.
  • Problem most severe when load a folder of websites at the same time.
  • After Firefox hangs up and I try to open Firefox again, get error message that Firefox is still running.
  • All sites with problems are configured in Firefox settings as "allowed" safe sites.
  • Latest update didn't resolve the problem.
  • Microsoft Edge works smoothly.
  • Reimaged PC to Windows Image saved a month ago to see if older version of Firefox would work better--No improvement, problems noted above persist.
  • After disabling Browser Guard, Firefox was able to quickly load the same sites I was having problems with, even when opening from a folder of multiple sites.

This problem is a recent development, what changed? -- Are Browser Guard updates different than Firefox browser updates?

Recent update causes all pdf links to be opened in Firefox on Android with no option to download, and no setting to choose a default behavior. They're was another person who asked a similar question and was told to use the "Share" option and then "Save as PDF" - this doesn't work. Another advise given was long-pressing on the PDF link and choosing to save target - it won't work when I am pasting the pdf link into the address bar, which is how I do it primarily. I'm stuck using the Open in External App, which opens the pdf in Google drive, then having the option of saving the file. So many unnecessary steps. Please fix.

I have been using Firefox as my preferred browser for years. Recently I notice that when using Outlook mail in web the paste option is gone when replying to an email. Everything works in Chrome and Edge correctly but not Firefox. I instead get a text toolbar and an option to insert an emoji. Note this is ONLY if I am replying to an email. In new emails I am able to use the file toolbar and paste from there. Any help would be appreciated as I would like to keep using Firefox. I have tried all the online remedies including clearing the cache to no avail.
