I use google as startpage. I only use Google and potentially wiki as search engines, yahoo is not even to be found in the list. I have no addons or what ever that I know of that use Yahoo, neither have I installed anything that uses it.

Yet since a few days Yahoo has replaced my standard search engine (google) whenever I type in a search in the top-right textbox.

I've checked all settings and nothing has changed. Google is my standard searchengine still. In the list with search engines, there is no yahoo to be found.

So how the f... is yahoo being used as the search engine when I type something in?

It's even worse. This morning I was behind the PC and performed some google searches. I leave the PC for a few hours, come back and do a search... and suddenly Yahoo is my search engine without me having changed anything in the meantime? WTF?

What is causing it and how can I get rid of the disgusting Yahoo search that I absolutely hate?

Hello all -

When I boot up and begin my usual heavy daily research use of Firefox (Ver. 53.0), my HP laptop desktop (Windows 7) will start getting littered with two different kinds of symbols, both very tiny: compass point stars and vertical bars. I have attached to screen-grab jpgs for you to see what they look like.

I PROMISE you that I have done due diligence with any combination of reasonable key-wording I can think of to find a common story on this issue posted by some other user or by a computing specialist but...nothing.

The pace of accumulation of these tiny symbols is crazy-making within an hour I will have at least two, then more. They cannot be moved by use of my pointer, they cannot be deleted except by powering down the laptop and rebooting. With lots of open pages and client work out on the desktop, this gets old!

Does ANYONE out there is Magical Mozilla Land recognize (a) what these little guys are and (b) what causes them to appear. A cure will surely follow! ;)

Latest firefox, windows 7 pro 64, 8GB ram

If I open a tab to a tumblr.com blog and keep scrolling, memory usage for the tab eventually goes well over 3 GB and my computer start acting strange (slowing down).

Try that, then, open another tab, and close the one you were scrolling on. When I close the tab, the hard drive light will stay lit for 10 minutes or more while firefox is thrashing as it tries to swap/clear/free memory. The computer essentially freezes while windows try to sort it out.

My question is how to stop a single firefox tab from using over 4GB of ram, triggering this issue.

I realize it has a lot to do with the way the webpage is designed, but how can I get firefox to not accumulate so much stuff in ram?

http://te5seract.tumblr.com/ will demonstrate the issue. Just scroll until firefox gets to 3.5GB, open a new tab, close the tab you were scrolling on, and watch what happens.

Thanks

Since I moved to a new Mac running on OS Sierra (v 10.12.4) every web page I visit has a little red error warning in the bottom right hand corner of the window claiming swiftly multiply numbers of errors running into the thousands. It's not causing me any problems but is a bit annoying as it can't be accurate. Every time I refresh the page the number multiplies itself.

Seems to be predominantly on the top tab. If I open new web pages in separate tabs it seems to be OK.

As an experiment I just tried moving the Facebook page (shown in the screenshot if it uploads) with 38640 errors into another tab, the number of errors went down to 4. I created a new tab and went to a web page. That was OK and no errors. Went back to the facebook page and the number had gone up to 119.

Is anybody else experiencing this?

Its an issue with your browser.

Cookies are allowed and I have Windows 7. Nothing I do is working. I have a couple of hours left and exhausted all avenues for a solution.

hi i decided to revert to FF v53.0.2 because i hated the newest update which has a new toolbar. and now FF seems to hang and stall especially when i'm using facebook. is there a newer version of FF which gave us back the older toolbar? and the othe thing is that exactly one hour after i log onto FF, and every hour thereafter, something refreshes and "updates" for close to 2 minutes. this is extremely annoying and, i think, unnecessary. any clues?

please, i have two related questions: 1. Super often, for so long now on my Mac OS, i have found myself wishing i knew of a way to open &edit a bookmark’s properties (specifically, i like to write/edit in the notes section), straight from the bookmarks scrolldown list by simply right-clicking the bookmark and choosing properties from a context menu. Unfortunately, what happens instead is that the webpage itself opens! (Not only that, but it replaces whatever webpage i already had open, which is in itself an additional bummer.) The only way to do what i want (ie. to open &edit the bookmark’s properties), is to either open the bookmarks side bar, find the bookmark there, and then rt-click it, or— and this works only if it is a recently created bookmark!— go to the bookmarks scrolldown, go to recently bookmarked, then rt-click it.

2. I also wish i knew of a way to open my bookmark’s properties for a webpage i am currently on, simply by either rt-clicking on the webpage and selecting from the context menu, or hitting the bookmark shortcut (command-d) and finding the properties option there (alas, all that actually appears are the name, folder, tags, and remove options for it!), or some other convenient keyboard shortcut.

To summarize my 2 questions: Is there any way to make it so that:

1. i can easily open any bookmark’s properties straight from the bookmarks scrolldown list?

and 2. i can open my bookmark’s properties for a webpage i am currently on, straight from the page itself?

Much appreciated!

From Firefox 53.0 (64 Bit), whenever I attempt to log on to LAN devices, e.g. my router or NAS, I get the "Insecure Password Warning" message.

I normally connect to these devices by specifying the device's Hostname or IP in the URL. As these are local (not internet) addresses, should I be worried about the warning and, if so, what am I supposed to do about it? If not, should I simply ignore the warning or is there something I can do to keep it from popping up, e.g. a global setting to ignore LAN devices?

For the last one hour, I am trying to set Firefox as it was. I opened it, it wouldn't open, again and again. I restart my PC. Firefox starts with changed GUI and without any settings set as the were. Add ons were all gone. Possibly it has updated or re-installed itself. I had set it to update only after I permit it. Your Support page is taking ages to load. For more than half an hour I am trying to connect. For the last one hour I am trying to fix this. And I want to ask you : What did I do to you, to deserve this? If you want us to change browser, tell us, don't make us suffer. I've been using FF since it started, and I've never switched to Chrome. This is the thank you? Why are you doing this to people? Do you enjoy it? Is this your idea of having fun?

Windows 7 SP1, Firefox 53.0:

When Firefox is opened normally, then web page http://v2.eldersweather.com.au/vic/melbourne/viewbank is opened, some graphics (the moon phase ones) don't show.

When Firefox is opened normally then reopened using the "Restart with Add-ons disabled" option, then "Menu Bar" is selected, then web page http://v2.eldersweather.com.au/vic/melbourne/viewbank is opened, all graphics (including the moon phase ones) show.

Hopefully this can be corrected in the near future. It's been occurring for about two to three months, but I haven't had a chance to report it earlier.

Cheers,

John

PS I've tried, unsuccessfully, to upload two .png images which illustrate what I'm referring to; if you think they will be of assistance to you please let me know and I will attempt to send them by email.

I've been using Firefox on this computer for years with no problem. All of a sudden, within the last two weeks, it's started having problems.

Sometimes, when opening a new tab and then going immediately to a search bar entry, Firefox totally crashes. That is, the Firefox screen freezes (and sometimes it says "not responding"). The cursor becomes an hourglass within the Firefox window, although it's an arrow when pointed to the "close" X. Nevertheless, it won't close. There is no crash report generated.

If I try to force Firefox to shut down by opening the Task Manger, typing CTRL-ALT-DEL, the entire computer screen goes black. At that point, the only thing I can do to recover is to hit the hardware force-reset button.

What's really weird is that even when Firefox is frozen, other programs like Thunderbird are still working and happy.

This is on a 32-bit Windows 7 computer.

Troubleshooting that I've tried so far without success: - Used my installed Norton anti-virus to do a full scan of the computer (not the online "extreme" anti-virus) - Ran Chkdsk with perfect results - Ran the Extended memory check with perfect results - Removed AdBlockPlus and replaced it with uBlock Origin

I'm a tiny bit suspicious of keeping a Facebook tab open all the time, but haven't investigated that thoroughly.

I have been keeping the computer and Firefox totally up to date. In fact, brand-new updates were installed yesterday and today, so I don't know yet if the problem is solved by the updates
