I woke up this morning to my home directory having been remounted as read-only (it has its own dedicated hard drive at /dev/sdd1). I ran e2fsck and things looked good, so I restarted and things were fine again.

However, whenever I open Firefox, it hangs for about 1 full minute before it goes haywire and renders the entire system essentially unusable since being able to access my home directory is vital. The following is visible in dmesg:

All other programs that I use daily do not cause this issue. No clue what to do here. LibreWolf works fine - that's what I'm using now that Firefox breaks everything and basically forces me to restart if I want to use my computer normally.

When logging in to the online bank at DNB with Bankid, this error appears:

"A communication error has occurred. We are experiencing a communication error between your browser and the user site. The reason may be slow internet or problems with your browser. Try again in a little while. You can also try to delete cookies and browser data in your browser or try a different browser. Error code BID-5000 Reference DXP4VKOE Date 12/06/2024"

No other browsers show this error. I've tried Edge, Chrome, Vivaldi, Brave, CC Cleaner. The error starts after version 125.0.3. Today a new version 127.0 arrived. The same error appears.

I have uninstalled the latest version and reinstalled version 125.0.3. Then no error message appears. I have deleted cookies and browser data, but the error message persists. To your info, I've tried also on other PC's and the same Firefox version, and the same errormessage appear.

I look forward to you having a solution to the problem, otherwise I will have to use browsers that do not show this error. As I prefer Firefox, I don't want to use other browsers. But if the bug can't be identified and fixed in newer versions, I'm not happy with firefox and will use other browsers..

For a while now, I've been having recurring issues with Firefox desktop freezing and becoming totally unresponsive. If there's any pattern to what causes it, I haven't been able to notice it; sometimes it happens as soon as I open the browser, sometimes it happens after several hours, sometimes it happens twice in ten minutes, sometimes it happens twice in a few hours (however, I can count the number of days it's happened less than twice in one day in the past few weeks on the fingers of one hand). When the browser freezes, it becomes totally unresponsive - it doesn't fade or display "Not Responding", and Task Manager shows nothing abnormal, but it doesn't accept any input at all, any video or other animated material that may have been displaying freezes, and it can only be "fixed" by force quitting from the task manager and reopening. This is exclusively a firefox issue; other programs open at the same time as the browser freezes are not affected.

The only real lead I have as to what could be going on is that sometimes, things don't freeze all at once, but in a cascading effect. For example, tabs, bookmarks, etc. might not highlight when moused over, but still accept the clicks, or selecting another tab might causes the address bar to display the URL of the selected tab, but the screen displayed in the window will not change. Once these cascading changes start, they generally progress to total freeze before I have a chance to do much with that information (only a few seconds), but it's unusual enough behavior to be worth noticing.

Things I've already tried that haven't fixed the issue:

  • Reducing the number of tabs used and otherwise reducing Firefox's system resource usage has not impacted the problem in any way.
  • Running in Troubleshoot Mode has not had a consistent effect on the problem (the most recent time I did, the browser ran stably for longer than I could stand to use the internet without my ad blocker, but this is only one data point in an already inconsistent spread; prior instances of the problem have occurred in Troubleshoot Mode)
  • Disabling hardware acceleration has not fixed the issue.
  • The issue has persisted through multiple refreshes and at least one full uninstall and clean reinstall.
  • The issue persisted after creating and switching to a new profile multiple times.
  • The issue persisted after renaming places.sqlite
  • The issue persisted after clearing cache and cookies multiple times.
  • The issue persisted after clearing downloads and history.
  • And very likely some other stuff that I'm forgetting, I've been trying to fix this on my own for a while now.

I have checked my Win 10 Control Panel Apps options. TB is the email default. MailTo, file type .eml and all other settings I can see are set to TB as well.

On Linux, closing Thunderbird also closes Firefox if Firefox was initially opened via clicking a link in Thunderbird. I don't know if this would qualify as a bug, but is there a way to have the Firefox process start independent of Thunderbird when, for example, clicking a link in an email? I'm running 115.12.0 (64-bit) at the moment, but it happens on previous versions as well.

I just spent an hour on the phone with att and they say the problem is not theirs since I can access my account via the web interface.

Thunderbird keeps giving me this message when trying to access my email (Yahoo/AT&T). I have two email addresses with them and they both respond the same as below.

Error with account MyPrimaryBellsouthAccount Sending of password for user jarinker@bellsouth.net did not succeed. Mail server inbound.att.net responded: [SYS/TEMP] Server error - Please try again later.

I takes about 5 minutes to return this error on start up on when I use PF5 to manually check the mail.

My wife also has a bellsouth account she accesses via Thunderbird and it works fine on her laptop. So, I kind of think that rules out a home network issue.

I have some feeling that something somewhere has become corrupted in Thunderbird, but I am not sure what.

Hello! Since as of last update to 127.0 (64-bit, ARM-version) Firefox looks like the attatched photos. White spaces all over which makes Firefox impossible to use. This only occurs on my Surface pro X though so a problem with the ARM-version?

So far I've tried switching to light theme, a refresh, deleting the entire Mozilla folder in APPDATA and a reinstall (using Revo uninstaller first) of Firefox but it still looks the same...

Is there anything more I can try or is this just my life now?

Regards, // Richard

I read through the previous discussion on this issue since I am suffering from the same issue of links not working as expected. I regularly need to forward messages which include links and none of the suggestions mentioned worked for me, and I do not recall this being a problem in the past.

I currently run Thunderbird 115.11.0 on Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon & have been using Thunderbird as my primary Email package for many years across multiple computers.

The work around is to to copy any email that is to be forwarded to the Drafts folder. Links are preserved and the message can then be edited as required and sent complete with the embedded links.

Hope this helps others who have the same problem.

I have streamed TennisTV in the past no problem but now it stutters and task manager shows CPU 100%. It also shows Firefox running 2 processes which consume CPU and accounts for the 100%. So I closed one of the processes (the one using least memory) and it solved the problem. So how can I stop this second process from starting, it seems to consume CPU without actually doing anything?

When I try to login to my Social Security account after pulling up the Soc Sec site (ssa.gov), I get this message:

I tried waiting a couple of days and attempting a login again. I also tried turning off my VPN, using a new tab, refreshing the site and restarting my laptop. I do not get this message when I use Safari to login, but I want to use Firefox.

Thanks for your help in fixing this problem.

Thunderbird has suddenly stopped pulling in email, please help. It just says 'Checking mail server capabilities'. I have changed no settings at all. Webmail works. Email on my phone works. So it's not the ISP or the server or anything like that. It's just on Thunderbird where I can't do anything, but I've not changed anything so I don't understand.

When I try to send email it fails and says: Sending of the message failed. Unable to communicate securely with peer: requested domain name does not match the server’s certificate. The configuration related to mail.mandyhaggith.net must be corrected.

So please can you tell me how to correct the configuration?

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Best wishes Mandy
