This started last week and when using Thunderbird it will not pop mindspring.com or earthlink.net. It works on my phone, outlook and my ipad, but not in Thurderbird. The settings are correct and I have tried removing the account and reinstalling it on my laptop. I continue to get these messages. "Sending of password for user xxxx@mindspring.com did not succeed. Mail server pop.mindspring.com responded: Authentication failed". When I reenter the password I get this message "Login to server pop.mindspring.com failed." I am stymied as I have to read the email on a remote PC.

I use TB, Win 7, and my ISP is Cox Cable. I removed the passward from my Email Account using the path Junk Settings > Global Junk Preferences > Security > Passwords > Saved Passwords > and Removed All. But TB still ask me for a PW when I open it and I enter my previously used password. Only then can I see my email. So why is TB still asking for the password I thought I had deleted? I've included Troubleshooting Info, all the data above Important Modified Preferences.

Often, though not always, when I open THUNDERBIRD I'm not able to delete or move messages. I need to close the program and reopen. Similarly, when sending emails, sometimes things works smoothly and sometimes they hang up on saving to the SENT box. Apparently they DO get sent but I can't keep a copy. If I close and reopen, then it works as it should.

I'm running Windows 8.1, AVAST internet security, and Thunderbird 24.3.

My system files have been corrupted and I can not do a restore from a restore point (System restore failed). No remedy has been found. I will either have to (1) do a factory reset/restore or (2) restore to a prior date from a system image. In either event I will have to restore my Thunderbird Profile which contains several calendar .ics files as well as events and tasks. The Profile, the ..default file and even the calendar ics files are backed up.

First, once my computer is all restored can't I just go to appdata/thunderbird and delete the old Profile and copy my back up back in?

Second, this is also confusing because, while in my Thunderbird Calendar, I regularly “export” my several different calendar .ics files to a back up directory. This implies I must use the “import” functions to put them back in. This is confusing as Import & Export seem to be terms of art that are not the same as “copy”. Is this a distinction with arty difference? Must I import each calendar .ics file back into TBird while it’s running or can I simply copy it all back in when I copy in the *.default folder?

Thunderbird Path Why moving Thunderbird into a new computer might fail.

This is my computer's folder path to the Thunderbird email files:

   C:\Users\Stan\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\iq9rzk1o.default\Mail\pop.att.yahoo.com\Inbox

In that Thunderbird email folder:

Are these folders:
  Crash Reports A long list of very tiny "Install Time" text files.
  Profiles Folders and files holding all the Thunderbird user's email and preferences.
And these files:
  Registry.dat A very small file with perhaps some entries for installation in the Registry.
  Profiles.ini A very small text file containing only this:
                    [General]
                    StartWithLastProfile=1
                    [Profile0]
                    Name=default
                    IsRelative=1
                    Path=Profiles/iq9rzk1o.default     <--- Note this.

If that Path entry is not exactly the same as the path following the Thunderbird folder, then Thunderbird does not start.

         Error message: "Your Thunderbird profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible."

So, when copying/moving Thunderbird from the old computer into the new computer, that Profiles.ini file must be included.

        To do that copy/move the entire Thunderbird folder. NOT just the Profiles folder, as that Help article describes.

Thus this Help article needs correcting: Moving a Profile [ Because it fails. ]

    See:   https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb#w_moving-a-profile

TB signs onto my mail server as [<IP address>]. Strictly speaking this is "illegal", especially if this is a reserved (non-public) address, since the EHLO/HELO is supposed to enable the machine to be identified. How can I get it to identify itself with an FQDN?

Reason: If I can do this, I can configure my server to drop connections from clients sending HELO/EHLO [<IP address>] which would strengthen my SPAM defence.

For the last week whenever I open Mozilla ThunderbirdI get a problem with script running, then this: Script: chrome://calendar/content/calendar-month-view.xml:990

I don't use Chrome and don't know why this is interfering with opening the program. I have been clicking on 'stop script' twice to enable the program to run properly. How do I correct this?

Many thanks.

Exactly what args does FF send to default mail handler?

Using "email link" feature.

Regardless of how I set the email client to be Thunderbird, either in FF or in the OS (Win 7 64bit), TB starts up in the profile manager, and because TB is already running, I am unable to compose a message in the currently-used profile. I have 3 profiles defined, and I do not want to use either of the other 2.

I observe that the OS believes that the command line for running TB (from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Mozilla Thunderbird\Protocols\mailto\shell\open\command ) is

"C:\pctools\Mozilla\Thunderbird\v38.4.0\thunderbird.exe" -osint -compose "%1"

That is the correct path on my installation.

If I manually run that command from a command window, for example:

"C:\pctools\Mozilla\Thunderbird\v38.4.0\thunderbird.exe" -osint -compose

or

"C:\pctools\Mozilla\Thunderbird\v38.4.0\thunderbird.exe" -osint -compose "body='foobar'"

then TB starts up with compose window as expected (including "foobar" in that case).

I cannot, however, without doing some surgery on the registry, determine what argument FF is sending to the OS for the "%1" argument to TB.

If I knew the latter, maybe I could fix this problem.

Or, maybe someone can tell me how to fix the problem at user level?

Note I am asking what FF does, not what TB does. It's entirely possible that this is a TB bug, and it's more likely that it is a config bug on my end, but IE 11 is able to start TB correctly. What I am missing is to find out exactly what FF is doing to start the mail handler, and I cannot find documentation on that.
