ZTE Open no longer realistically supported.
Its clear that ZTE is not going to make the required changes to the updates so that Orange Ebay phone users will be supported. Updates are failing, and users are told to wait for months. Could we be given some sort of credit if we return these phones for one of the supported ones? The geekphone guys are getting great support, and we are getting hosed.
Chosen solution
You know what would be awesome?
If firefox would put up precompiled images, instead of forcing me to build it myself. Instead of a five hour download, half a day spent trying to build it on a 64bit Linux Mint machine (protip, you have to deprecate GCC,G++ and load an insecure version of Java to do it) only to brick my phone. I found version 1.3 but perhaps someone could host new versions of 1.1 and 1.2 on their page? if I have to use a hacked third party file, why not the entire OS?
A couple of ad links, and someone might even make a few bucks off of frustrated ZTE Open users.

I keep getting "E: signature verification failed"
You need to use the extracted zip file from within the downloaded zip file.
I am using the appropriate file. The problem probably has to do with me using a custom version of B2G that was installed using the instructions provided by Mozilla.
The update process was pretty easy, but like you said I lost all my contact which is not really a big deal for since I haven't started using the phone yet. Bad thing is I lost the Chinese keyboard which I could turn on under "developer" in settings. Would you guys know if I could somehow install it back or "turn it back on" if it's still in the build. Thanks.
fai07: Look in the keyboard section because that's where mine is - maybe it got moved?
Unfortunately, Chinese isn't one of the options under the keyboard setting. I guess because mine is the eBay US version.
@fai07, so it was all an almighty administrative cock up, in that they would only release at carriers request?!?
@fleamour, I went back and forth with ZTE's own email support to ask about the OS update. They kept copying and pasting the same answer which basically said they release update when there are demands from users through regional carriers. Given we bought our phones from eBay, the support said I should contact the eBay store bulk seller to have them request for an OS release. They even said they don't directly sell their phones directly to consumers, but it's pretty obvious to me ZTE runs that eBay store.
@fai07 interestingly, for the last week, I've been having email back and forth with the EBay seller of the ZTE regarding getting an update to the OS software. Now the update exists and I can't get it to install. This seems to be par for the course with the ZTE Open.
@fai07, lets hope it oils the wheels somewhat for 1.2!
Anyone elses GPRS screwy after 1.1 update? Mine geolocates the next village, out by several miles.
After reformatting my SD card, I was able to install the "update", my GPS is very accurate with the "HERE Maps" application. Unfortunately, I can no longer user fastboot to install a custom compiled version of FirefoxOS.
Mine geolocates to next village, several miles out. May be a carrier problem, am checking correct settings, though they worked before upgrade.
