I can't find an option to show a "plus" sign next to tabs to open up a new tab.

I recently had my Windows re installed. I used to have plus signs next to my tabs in Firefox to add a new tab, and they no longer appear. I know I can open up a new tab under the file menu, but I'd like to see the plus sign again to open one and I can't find the option to do this.

You are using an older version of Firefox that doesn't have that feature; you need Firefox 3.5 or higher.

There are other things that need attention:

Your above posted system details show outdated plugin(s) with known security and stability risks that you should update.

  1. Shockwave Flash 10.0 r22
  2. Next Generation Java Plug-in 1.6.0_14 for Mozilla browsers

Update the Flash plugin to the latest version.

Update the Adobe Reader plugin to the latest version.

Thank you! Since Windows was upgraded, I may have an older version. I'm going to try to upgrade now!

I am running the current version of Firefox 9.0.1 on XP and the plus sign is not showing next to the tab. I installed the latest Flash and reader as suggested, but it still does not appear.

My post regarding updating plugins like Flash isn't related to the New Tab button.

See:

You can find the New Tab button showing as a '+' on the Tab bar.
You can open the Customize window and drag the New Tab button that shows as a plus sign (+) from the Tab bar on another toolbar and it will become a regular toolbar button like the New Tab button that you have in Firefox 3 versions.
If you can't find the New Tab button or move the button to the wanted position then click the "Restore Default Set" button in the Customize window.
If you want the New Tab button at the far right end of the Tab bar then place a flexible space to the left of it.
