Facebook seems to be having some server issues right now (it's down for several people using different browsers). I'd try again in a few hours.

Hi:

Since I can't figure out how to ask a new topic question I hope asking here will help.

I just got Win8 and installed both FF & Chrome. I notice Facebook doesn't load in FF... I do not have the plug in Is there one & where do I get it. I've searched plug in but didn't see one.

Any idea why FB doesn't work on FF? It does work on the Chrome but I prefer FF is I can get it working.

& I'm new to Win8 so go slow :D TIA

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry (Show All History or History sidebar) or via the about:permissions page.

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make a note of those passwords and bookmarks.

You can't recover from that 'forget' unless you have a backup of the affected files.

It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

That works. Thanks very much. Not sure why a new laptop with a fresh install would need that but it works.

Aside from wondering why it is so ridiculously impossibly to start a new thread & navigator around on this forum, I also wonder why my toolbar File/Options/ etc. went into the top left hand corner with the word Firefox and and arrow down, instead of across the top of the browser as it used it. I realize this came with one of the updates but I don't like it.  :P

Thanks again, I appreciate solving the FB mystery

You get the orange Firefox menu button when the menu bar is hidden (Firefox > Options or View > Toolbars).

See:

  • Press the F10 key or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily if the menu bar is hidden.
  • Use "Firefox > Options" instead of "Tools > Options" if the menu bar is hidden.
