According to Firefox 3.6.24 Release Notes: Operating Systems

   * Mac OS X 10.4 and later

Minimum Hardware

   * Macintosh computer with an Intel x86 or PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor
   * 128 MB RAM (Recommended: 256 MB RAM or greater)
   * 200 MB hard drive space

the MAC PowerPC G4 is supported. I have attempted to install this 3 or 4 times and it never installs. It acts like it is installing but when I check the version I am running, it is still 3.6.23.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop

  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded

Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.

It was a scary fix to trash the old copy but Cor-el got it right. This solution works. Thanks.

You're welcome.

Trashing the old version is usually easier and quicker then trying to find out what you need to repair or close down to get if working. If files are in the trash then you can always restore them or use the Time Machine if you have enabled it.
