I downloaded a extension that is no longer compatible with Firefox and updated on my side. Now I want to submit it as an updated version. Is this allowed? Credit is given to original author.

Which extension is that?

1. Depends upon the license that extension was released under.
2. You would need to change the GUID and submit it as a new extension, only the original developer / the person who originally submitted it to AMO can submit an updated version of the original using the original GUID.
3. With a different GUID it wouldn't be offered as an update for the original version, but users could install it as a new extension.
4. You can give credit to the original author in the Developer Comments section on the AMO download page and in the "About" section in the Add-ons Manager window. (I have done that a few times myself with extensions I "updated", but linked from my own webspace - not available from AMO.)

So I can do it as long as the License is an open-source? And doesn't the GUID automatically get assigned when you use the package tool?

Sorry, I haven't used that "package tool", I haven't done any add-on fixes since late last year and I did those manually.

This is probably the best forum for questions about extension development, sorry I didn't mention it before.
