My laptop was working normally yesterday. I logged on today at work and the computer seemed to be working fine but my bookmarks was empty. I tried to add my more common sites and it would not add any bookmarks. I tried the trouble shooting tips without success. If I try to restore bookmarks I get "cannot access file" message.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Unfortunately, none of the recommendations corrected the problem. I was able to recreate the majority of my bookmarks from memory so I deleted firefox and downloaded the same version. 5.0 It did not correct the problem. I also tried to save favorites on IE browser and that seems to work without any problem. The computer otherwise seems fine. Virus scan was negative. Any other thoughts? Thanks for your help.

Did you try to delete (move) the file places.sqlite in the Firefox Profile Folder to force Firefox to create a new and fresh file?

yes I did try to delete that file and the message was " cannot delete because that file is currently in use"

If the file is in use and Firefox isn't running then it sounds that you have some security software that is protecting the file and in that case you need to check that out.
