In the 'Edit This Bookmark' box, the drop-down location previously defaulted to the last location used, now (Firefox 4) it remains at 'Unsorted Bookmarks', correct? This is inconvenient compared to the previous version.
I'd just like to know if this is the 'correct' new behavior or if I'm missing a setting somewhere, because this is LESS convenient than the old version (3.6.x), where the last-used location automatically appeared in the 'Folder' box & was highlighted in the drop-down list. Now it remains at 'Unsorted Bookmarks' & we have to re-select the location each time.

Yes, it looks that that has changed and I agree that it is not convenient.
I don't know if it is done intentionally or that it is a regression.
You can try to post on the mozillaZine Firefox Support forum to see if someone there knows.
Thanks for the tip. I posted on the support forum as suggested & was informed that this is the 'correct' behavior in Firefox 4. IMO this is definitely a regression from the previous version & needs to be fixed. Maybe if more people complain we can get the old behavior back.
Just to follow up, here's an addendum I posted in the Firefox Support forum in response to some confusion. I hope this makes my complaint excruciatingly clear:
1) Clicking on the star in the address bar once creates a bookmark (in the 'Unsorted Bookmarks' folder).
2) Clicking the star again brings up the 'Edit This Bookmark' box.
3) Clicking the drop-down arrow next to the 'Folder' box brings up the folders list.
4) PREVIOUSLY (v.3.6) when the drop-down arrow was clicked, the last-used location would automatically appear in the 'Folder' box (replacing 'Unsorted Bookmarks') and that folder would be highlighted in the drop-down list. Clicking 'Done' at the bottom of the box would then place the bookmark in that folder.
5) NOW (v.4) when the drop-down arrow is clicked, 'Folder' remains 'Unsorted Bookmarks' and we must re-select the location each time.
I've checked out the bug reports linked above [in the Support Forum, see below] & it seems this change was intentional. However, it looks like at least some other users also found the old behavior more convenient when bookmarking a series of pages in the same folder.

I guess it comes down to numbers & 'squeaking wheels': if the majority of users (and obviously the developers) prefer the new behavior, the rest of us will just have to live with it. On the other hand, if enough people complain, maybe it will get changed back. We'll see.
You will have to use the extension that is mentioned.

Thanks again. Yes, that add-on does restore the old default behavior: new bookmarks are placed in the last folder used. It also has many other options for customizing the 'Edit' box & Bookmarks Menu that I don't need but that others may like. Overkill, but recommended to anyone with the same complaint.
