I installed Windows 11 and Firefox on a new PC. I used Firefox Sync to get my bookmarks onto the new PC. Firefox is version 101.0. I'm using Windows 11 Home, 10.0.22000, Build 22000.

When Firefox is opened it immediately asks for the Primary Password, then immediately asks for it again. I have to cancel the 2nd request before I can enter the PW in the first request.

Is there a fix for these multiple requests?

Thank you.

Are you using Sync as that can be the cause of one of the PP requests on startup ?

Having one of the startup (home) pages set to a website with a saved login can also be the cause for asking for the PP. Extensions that want to access logins or use the password storage to store data also can cause this.

Thank you very much for your prompt response.

On your first question, yes, Sync is used. Are the use of Sync and a Primary Password not compatible? That would be a new and significant limitation to Firefox.

On your 2nd question, I do not have a home page set to a website.

Having used a Primary Password with Sync without an issue for many years, this is a new problem.

Is there a short-term workaround for this?

When will Firefox roll out a fix for this problem?

Thank you.

Using Sync is a possible reason to ask for the Primary Password at startup. This is because the credentials to login to the Sync account are stored in the Password Manager and you need to enter the Primary Password to unlock the passwords and connect/login to the Sync account. So if you use Sync and use a PP then Firefox will always have to ask for the PP to be able to connect to Sync.

I don't know why you get a second PP prompt as some other cases I mentioned above do not seem to apply to your case (i.e. you do not recognize them).
