How do I get documents from web sites to open

more options

I believe the problems lies in the settings which I changed a whie ago. Linked documents from banks and elsewhere no longer open in FIrefox and they used to. I thought it was about cookies so I allow them to open from a website that I am using but the documents still won't open linked from within websites. How di I fix this? Thanks

What kinda documents are they? So did you reverse the changes? If that was the problem why didn't you change it back?

more options

If the documents are PDFs, specifically, please check your setting here:

  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

Scroll down to the Applications section, where there is a list box showing a variety of different file types. Next to Portable Document Format (PDF) do you have "Preview in Firefox" -- the usual default setting -- or something else -- in which case, try selecting "Preview in Firefox".

Note that Firefox's PDF viewer is not as full featured as the stand-alone Adobe programs, so in some cases you'll need to open the PDF outside of Firefox. In that case you can use the download button on the PDF viewer's black toolbar. (Example screenshot attached for reference.)
