About a month ago I put Mozilla Foxfire on my laptop. The other day I started to get messages that I would not be able to see my photos that I have saved due to a cryptowall2.0 that came from Mozilla. I am VERY upset that I no longer can see my photos. I have tried to delete all the Mozilla earth with fires that now show up on my photos. I certainly hope that you can tell me how to get rid of this Crypto thing so that all of the photos I have saved can be seen again. Sincerely Thomas H Brockman Marshfield, Wisconsin USA

Hello,

Mozilla does not ship with other products unless you did not download from the official site. Please uninstall and download Firefox from the official site:

Unfortunately, cryptowall is a nasty virus, please see this guide if it will help:

If not, try posting in a forum specializing in malware removal:

Sorry, but you didn't get Cryptowall 2.0 from Mozilla. See this to learn how to get rid of it. http://blog.teesupport.com/infected-with-cryptowall-2-0-how-to-remove-cryptowall-2-0-ransomware/

Cryptowall2.0 is ransomware that does not come from Mozilla.

It seems like you've been either duped into installing this 'Foxfire' (typo?), which may have included the software, from a 3rd party or have gotten infected via some other method (a specially crafted website, email attachment etc. Antivirus software is far from perfect but it is still highly recommended that you have one installed along with Firewalls and Firefox script/adblocking addons such as Noscript etc.

Also please ensure you only download Firefox from official Mozilla servers - https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ and no other similar looking domain.

As far as I know, files encrypted by Cryptowall (2.0) cannot be decrypted. Though please read the first link for more detailed information on Cryptowall and possible solutions.

Hopefully you may have made backups to your files, either on another unconnected drive or via a cloud service like dropbox or icloud etc.

It's a pretty nasty thing to happen and you have my sympathies but Mozilla is not to blame, only the criminals who released the sotware. Good luck.
