This is getting really annoying as i have only just recovered from the various and annoying bugs in V26. I have disabled automatic updating as i'm hacked off about ff not starting up properly and then crashing upon quitting following every single update.

One such bug that surfaced around V26 was that a website (http://www.thecourier.co.uk/) crashes firefox. Just that website and just on my Mac and just on firefox. i cannot replicate the error on Ubuntu or WinXP or the computer of anyone I know with the same version. the website crashes firefox with no plugins or addons active, and it was this that made me install NoScript in the first place - ie to block out a JQuery? script that was causing the crash.

V27 bugs: firefox 27 update is losing my tabs from history after a restart, it remembers the favicons but displays "new tab" in each and shows blank page when clicked on, thus clearing the favicon and history etc. there's nothing in recently closed windows etc.

also, upon each and every restart my skin (Cotton Candy Swirl) is not displayed properly: the title bar shows up in Apple Mac Grey and the bottom bar shows solid pink.

When I: Firefox >> Quit, it hangs (as can be viewed in Mac's error report details). this requires me to open the task manager and force quit.

losing my tabs from history after a restart,-

> what are the history preferences in your options menu?

"new tab" in each and shows blank page when clicked on, thus clearing the favicon and history etc. there's nothing in recently closed windows etc.

-> by default the tabs do not load until they are clicked on, this can be changed in the tab options menu. -> in the recently closed window menu there are features that should be turned on for it to work: Navigate to about:config and check these settings type: sessionstore and right click->reset anything that is bolded, particularly browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo and browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo.

If it is repeating, please try Safe Mode to make sure it is not a plug in affecting this and Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode

For the cotton candy swirl, please disable this or reinstall to make sure it is up to date.

And for the hang please try: Firefox hangs or is not responding - How to fix

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":

  • do not clear the Browsing History

Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.

i'm not having ff clear history upon closing. i think i've cleared my history once in the 4.5 years of using Firefox on my Mac, and that was last november.

i do use CCleaner to clear app cache and browsing cache only, but i suspect either using CCleaner or a hang has corrupted my ff profile, which may have caused the weird one website to crash the browser.

i have always had ff not load a tab until clicked, ie from way back when i first started using ff. i have only started having problems since v26...

now using ff 27.0.1 and the problem still exists

when i open firefox, i can see the names on the sites all appearing in tabs

"watch list" "AOL Mail" "Stage Crew Jobs" "steviecandtheplacetobe.net" :) etc

but when i click on a tab, the title text changes to "New Tab" and i'm left with a white screen, racking my brain for the name of the site i've just lost.

the last opened few seem to be fine, just the tabs furthest from the left, most likely from a previous browsing session.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.

Rename (or delete) the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

I have the same problem,

I tried it in safe mode too, and safe mode after removing all my sessionstore* files

The images show what happens after a restart or two

Is there anything else I can check to see why this is goin on?

I'm using ff 28.0

Hi zidarsk8

Are you using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the browsing history?

Hi cor-el,

my settings have always been "remember history" and I did not clear it before I closed FF. Also, clear history would not leave a few working pages in each tab group (remaining working tabs are those with favicons and can be seen in the screenshot)

This is also a strange behaviour, since it's almost random and i have to close and reopen FF a few times to see this actually happen.

not that it helps, but at least someone else has the same problem.

i'm still using Macintosh 10.6.8 (i have other software that relies on this version).

and yes, it does seem to be almost at random. for now, i just "bookmark all tabs" before closing. then when starting up again, i goto my Tools >> add-ons page, disable and then re-enable my skin, which gets me up and running.

it is a pain, but it's still better than any other browser i've tried.

If you try this in Safe Mode can you confirm if this bug has the same behavior? [Bug 629232 - Move to New Window results in blank page and empty location bar for unloaded tab]

I'm now using Firefox v 30.0, and can confirm i have none of the above problems, with the added bonus of that one website that uses jquery not crashing firefox either. don't know what you changed, but it worked.
