unknown plugins
Why do all Google and Microsoft "plug ins" remain unknown to all 23 versions of Mozilla Firefox and how many more versions will it be before Mozilla "knows" about Google and Microsoft. I mean c'mon guys it really looks stupid to just jettison the user to a search engine every time we try to research why the heck Firefox finds these company's plugins to be "unknown". Don't you think that perhaps these two should be on the top of your priority list? After all your default homepage seems to be familiar with Google. Its persistent "broken" user experience like this that really makes newbies loose all faith in the software....and frankly Google and Microsoft are every bit as flawed in this respect. At what point does this feature get called a bug because it sure behaves like a bug.

Google has a built-in updater (which runs at start-up) with its' Plugin programs, so Mozilla doesn't find it necessary to keep up with Google version compatibility. Windows Media Player doesn't expose its' version number in a manner that is easily discoverable online via the Plugin Check page; plus Mozilla goes under the assumption that the user has automatic updates enabled in Windows, as is the default setting in Windows.
Overall, Mozilla is most concerned for its' users that the most common and most exploitable Plugins are kept up to date; Flash, Java, Real Player, and a few others.

Yes. Sorry for lag on my reply to your reply, which I mistook for a robot reply. Ironically, this is a another "feature" of computer user experience that functionally acts like a bug: email can't all be processed by humans, and neither can every GUI inconvenience that isn't a "show stopper." Thanks, anyway...I think that the reply below explains the reasonable priorities of a very functional development team that is volunteering their spare time to make it fly. And it does fly, quite well.
Its fixed now!! Google and MS are no longer "Unknown" Wow! That was fast considering how long it was bugging me. Thanks!
..Now just my VLC player plug-in has a "known" issue, but its a separate minor documented issue with the 2.06 plug in on the 2.08 version of VLC.
In any case, for us "pseudo power users" who don't know how to code, we do our best to really pay attention to features like your "check plug-ins" page. Its as close as we can get to engaging with plug in security considerations, in a proactive way. So, when Mozilla plugins checker is no longer befuddled by Google and Microsoft plug-ins, it gives me a much stronger (false) sense of security. Now that things appear to be fine I feel much better about my disillusionment.
That "unknown" thing had me feeling like the Wiley Coyote after the Road Runner points out we're just walking on air, underneath a levitating iron anvil. "Meep Meep"
