Make sure that you have selected to save the page as "Web Page, complete" via the drop down list at the bottom of the save file window.

You should still be able to save bookmarks if that is what you mean. If you are trying to save the web page itself again that can be done.
Some of the menus titles and items may have been rearranged and renamed since you used firefox 3.x. Bookmarks library is reached by show all bookmarks instead of Organize bookmarks.
Saving a web page you may use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + S or the file menu. Not Note if the firefox button is displayed pressing Alt temporarily displays the menubar toolbar.
You are using Firefox 6 which is no longer secure or supported, you should upgrade to Firefox 7.0.1.
You should also check any add-ons and plugins are up-to-date as they could cause problems or security issues.

thanx but no. I mean =>File=>Save Page As (Ctrl + S) no longer *saves* the page and the necessary folder/folders and files for images etc., ie *saving web pages* as opposed to saving bookmarks. 3.x.x and previous versions could do this. Has this function been removed? If so, why? It was very useful.
Control + S does still save pages, and right clicking gives an option to save an image. The menu items may have been re-arranged but the feature has not been removed. The problem is at your end rather than being a change in firefox.
Possibly you have extensions interfering with the process try
- in Firefox's safe mode
- do not make changes on the list in the first window, just click on continue
- use the default theme
- if the above does not work, also temporarily disable plugins whilst in safe mode.
Other possibilities are that they are saving but you are not finding them or security related software is blocking them. I often suggest as a test try to save your own or someone else's forum avatar it is an easily available very small file to try downloading. You should be able to right click and view or copy an avatar image.
- see also unable to download or save files
Safe Mode didn't change anything. Tried all 8 suggestions in "Unable to download or save files" link above. Will uninstall Firefox 6.0.2 and reinstall the new Firefox without the A.V. or extensions. What gripes me about this is when I upgraded from 3.x.x under Mozilla's shock-and-awe "rapid release" scheme, settings were changed by Mozilla. For example, after the 5.0.x version was installed, "automatically download and install updates" became checked when I had always done this manually.
I agree that Mozilla Firefox shot themselves in the foot with the rapid release scheme. It may be a good idea, and may work out, but it has alienated or lost a lot of users because a prime advantage of Firefox is its add-ons; generating repeated problems with them is an issue.
Just try Firefox as it is now in safe mode, possibly with plugins disabled, and also disable the AV.
Being unable to save files is a serious problem, it may relate to the fact that the AV does not recognise the new firefox, but it is probably not an inherent problem in Firefox itself.
Thanx again John99 for your efforts.
I forgot to mention it may also be worth trying the menu method besides the shortcut keys just in case something has taken over those combinations. So with the menubar toolbar displaying. (Use Alt if necessary to display the toolbar)
- File -> Save page as
What happens if you use right click on something, say the avatar image on this forum, and use the option to save that image, does that work ?
Right-clicking still allows me to save images. Ok, a recap here: As mentioned before, neither Menu=>Save Page As nor Ctrl+S save folders. 5.x.x didn't save folders, 6.0.2 doesn't save in Safe Mode with my A.V. turned off. At the top of this page Mozilla says 6.0.2 is insecure and only Firefox 7.0.1 is supported. My conclusion is "rapid release" has changed my settings and there has been some conflict with the extensions. Are they trying to drive people away or what?
What do you mean exactly by save folders. Have you or did you use some specific extension or add-on that made this possible ?
Which extension has stopped working ?

B-I-N-G-O! Issue resolved cor-el. The updates changed the "Save as type" from "Web page, complete" to save "All files". I swear on a stack of boyscout books I never touched that setting. Mozilla might contemplate the story of the tortoise and the hare... (Not?) Thanx cor-el.
