Good morning. My Firefox version is 117.0 and I am running Windows 11 Home. Currently except for Ublock all my other addon icons are grayed out on my toolbar. My webadvisor, Capital One, just gray. This is a new behavior and I'm not sure what happened. I am also curious why just Ublock is colored in. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Are you possibly running Firefox in Private Browsing mode ?

Here's a screenshot of what it looks like currently.

Sounds like it time to start fresh. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/refresh-firefox-reset-add-ons-and-settings Important: A Firefox refresh removes add-ons and other customizations, such as extensions, extension data, and preference configurations. If you've made accessibility customizations to Firefox, you may need to add them back after refreshing. Consider using Firefox Safe Mode to diagnose issues before you refresh Firefox.

You can check for problems with the extension registry files in the profile folder.

Try to reset the extensions registry and rename extensions.json (extensionsOLD.json) and rename/remove compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed.

New files will be created when required.

See "corrupt extension files":

You can check for possible updates in case of issues.

  • click the cogwheel (left of the Search bar) on the about:addons page to "Check for updates"

You can use the button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page (Root directory).

I am trying a couple of the steps cor-el suggested before doing a reset.

'Try to reset the extensions registry and rename extensions.json (extensionsOLD.json) and rename/remove compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed.'

I did this and renaming them didn't change anything. Also the compatibility did not have .ini at the end of it.

I checked for updates and there was none to be found.

Windows hides the .ini file extension like also is done with some others, you can check this in the Properties via the right-click context menu.

Do you see "File -> New Window" in the File menu just to be sure ?

Within the profile menu itself I do not even see a 'File' menu.

This is about the File on the Firefox Menu bar and possibly the "3-bar" Firefox menu button drop-down menu.

I do see new window and when I open it the behavior is the same. I followed the link you sent and unless I can come up with another option I will have to refresh Firefox. I hate doing that not only because it is a pain to reset everything but I did it once before when I had an issue in the past and after all that it didn't resolve the issue.

You can create a new profile as a quick test to see if your current profile is causing the problem, that will allow to return to your current profile.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works, you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

I'm not sure what I did but now all the addons are fine except for McAfee. When I first open Firefox the webadvisor box is normal. Once I go to the first site after that it goes gray. I think that might be a problem with WebAdvisor itself.

This is SO frustrating! I've tried several of the recommendations I found on another page on the Support section. And all those recommendations did was to completely get rid of all my extensions -- not just the ones which were grayed out. I wonder how many other people have this problem. Why wouldn't Mozilla get one of their techies on this issue? I'm probably going to get rid of Firefox and use some other browser that either doesn't have these kinds of problems or will, at least, provide a real step-by-step, clear solution.

Does it still happen with all third-party antivirus/security software like McAfee disabled?
