I have exactly the problem described in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1042093: whenever I press any keys on a page, it brings up the search bar, which breaks all kind of shortcuts / keypress handler set by the page.

However, I can't seem to find the option which is meant to turn this behaviour off.

You can possibly look at two other prefs on the about:config page to disable FAYT for cases like ' and / to open Quick Find for links.

  • accessibility.typeaheadfind => false
  • accessibility.typeaheadfind.autostart => false
  • accessibility.typeaheadfind.manual => false

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can click the button to "Accept the Risk and Continue".
