Dear Mozilla and my fellow Firefox users, I was browsing Firefox like normal, only an hour ago. I had added in a few new extensions, reloaded the page, and while on Amazon, I noticed the screen was much larger. Parts of the page got cut off like where I would choose a category over in the left hand edge of the screen. I had also noticed the font looked significantly larger and areas on the toolbar like the area to enter a url and the search box next to it also look off. I had looked in the community message board and saw others having this issue after Firefox apparently upgraded to version 90. The large layout and chopped off left side are really throwing me off. I am using a Windows 10 64bit laptop. Is there any fix for this? Sincerely, Stacy Byers (aka rocknrollchick5)

Hi Stacy, I assume you already tried exiting out of Firefox and restarting it. If not, please try that.

There are two ways the entire browser itself could be enlarged: one is a setting you might change in the about:config preferences editor, the other is modifying the Firefox shortcut with backwards compatibility settings. Interacting with a web page shouldn't change either of those. Installing an add-on usually doesn't change font or interface sizes, but beware of add-ons that have a secondary or companion download since those programs install at the system level and can do... anything.

Did you mean that there are other posts here about a similar problem, or were those on a different site? Maybe those threads have some additional clues.

Check your zoom controls.

<Control> (Mac=<Command>) + (plus) enlarge - (minus) reduce 0 (zero) restore

You can set layout.css.devPixelsPerPx to 1.0 (default is -1) on the about:config page. Adjust its value in 0.1 or 0.05 steps (1.1 to enlarge or 0.9 to reduce) until icons or text looks right. Make sure not to use values too large or too small.

  • modifying layout.css.devPixelsPerPx affects user interface and webpages (global zoom)

Firefox has a Zoom section in Settings to set the default zoom level for webpages.

  • Settings -> General -> Language and Appearance -> Zoom

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can click the button to "Accept the Risk and Continue".
