Hi, I have never used firefox console, and definitely don't want it to be opening automatically on firefox (89. windows 10 64 bit) start. How do I stop it from doing this please? Behaviour started a few months ago. Behaviour doesn't happen in troubleshoot mode, but still happens in normal mode with privacy extensions disabled.

Hoping screenshot not necessary, as when I tried to attach to this post, error message popped up from Firefox saying it was too big.

Thank you

The separate window labeled "Browser Console" is opening?

I think someone once said this could happen if your home page URL was set to something like javascript: but I've never tested that myself.

When you tested in Troubleshoot mode, that was from the Help menu? Hmm, what about your Firefox desktop shortcut -- maybe there's a problem with the command line. You can check that as follows, either:

  • Right-click a Firefox desktop shortcut, then click Properties
  • Right-click a Firefox icon pinned to the Taskbar then right-click Mozilla Firefox, then click Properties

Windows should show the Shortcut tab and select the Target field. The Target usually is along the following lines depending on 32-bit vs. 64-bit:

  • "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
  • "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"

If there is anything extra after that which you did not put there, you can remove it.

Thank you jscher2000 , but there was nothing extra in that field. I would appreciate any other suggestions. Is there a setting in about:config I could try?

Type about:config<enter> in the address bar. If a warning screen comes up, press the I Accept the Risk button. At the top of the screen is a search bar. Type browser.startup.homepage

What is its value?

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.jsonlz4 file in the Firefox profile folder that stores session data.

  • rename/remove sessionstore.jsonlz4 and sessionstore.js

You may also have to rename the sessionstore-backups folder.

When sessionstore.jsonlz4 is deleted you lose pinned-tabs and open tabs and you will have to recreate them, so if necessary make a note or bookmark them. sessionstore.jsonlz4 is only present in the Firefox profile folder when Firefox is closed.

You can use the button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
