With "print on both sides" checked, the "backside" of each page is printed inverted top to bottom. I believe this began after the latest update. I'd like to revert to the old, more conventional, and (for me, at least) easier-to-use older system.

Yes, known issue in Version 85. Seems to be fixed in 86.

That is an issue with print*duplex prefs that have been set to 2 instead of 1 on the about:config page. You can try switching the short-/long-edge binding manually: 

0 => print single-sided
1 => print double-sided, with long-edge (portrait mode left-right)
2 => print double-sided, with short-edge

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can click the button to "Accept the Risk and Continue".
