When I get my update notice, I click it. It then comes back update failed. I use WIN 10. When trying to download the newest version, all my emails were gone, and it asked me to open a new account. Fortunately, I was able to restore Thunderbird from my backups. Why won't the security updates install?

I heard that version 60.8.0 would not be auto updating to version 68 just yet until they had ironed out some gremlins whcih inevitably arrise with new major versions. If you want o upgrade now, uninstall and then download fresh version version 68 from this link: https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/all/

If you get the blank new profile asking you to create profile. Try this: Help > Troublshooting Information click on 'about:profiles' You should see the current empty new profile set as default. Below should be your original profile click on 'set as default profile' Either: click on 'Launch profile in a new browser' Exit the Thunderbird which had empty profile. OR: Exit and restart Thunderbird.

Alternative: Exit Thunderbird without creating accounts.

Start 'Profile Manager' In Windows search type 'run' select run app

If OS is win 64 bit type /copy paste

  • "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" -P

If OS is win 32bit type /copy paste

  • "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" -P

click on 'OK'

select the profile you want to use. select to not ask at startup click on 'Start thunderbird'

Thank you very much. I will simply wait until it actually works. I was thankful that my backup worked, as I was not aware of how to do the work arounds.
