Why does my Canon iP 4900 paper size keep changing to 4in x 6in when I come to print an email in Thunderbird with the result of a miniature printout ?

This has suddenly happened. In addition , the printer paper size keeps re-setting to 4in x 6in from A4 size even though I had checked the box which says 'Always print with current settings'. If I cannot get an answer to this , I may have to think of moving to another email provider as I cannot live with it as it is.

Sorry to be so long in answering your questions but I am embarrassed to have to say that I have answered my own question !! You will see the left hand image below is the miniscule one that was plaguing me. On the right is my corrected image and if you look closely at the toolbar at the top of the screen and the 'Scaling' widget in particular, you will see that it is set at 'Shrink to Fit'. Somehow , the miniscule image had its scaling set to 30% !! **

I hope that other enquirers will learn from my cock-up !!

Thanks very much for your interest , help ....... and amusement ?

Regards

Terry Dennis

In Thunderbird Help > TRoubleshooting Information click on 'Open Folder' button

a new window opens showing contents of your profile name folder.

Exit Thunderbird now and check it is not running in task manager.

Make a copy of the 'prefs.js' file and put on desktop as a temp backup.

Open the 'prefs.js' file using a text editor program like 'Notepad'. Scroll down to section that start: user_pref("print.printer_* Delete all lines that start with: user_pref("print.printer_ Close up any empty lines Save file

(If you make an error, you can use the backup copy on desktop to put another copy in thunderbird and edit as stated above)

Start Thunderbird.

Thanks for that reply and my apologies for taking some time to reply.

I have followed your instructions and have achieved the aim of 'Deleting all lines that start with: user_pref("print.printer_) in the 'prefs.js' file

The Print Properties 'printer paper size' will now stay at the required option (in my case A4) but the resultant print size is still miniscule.

What else can be done ?

re: but the resultant print size is still miniscule Do you mean the font size is small and the printing is only using a small section of the A4 paper? If you right click on email and choose 'Print Preview', what do you see? Post an image of the 'Print Preview', so the forum can see what you are seeing.
