On Firefox 59.0.2. After FF was updated I lost my Bookmarks Toolbar. I went to Customize and checked the box for it but nothing happened. I have all my bookmarks including the ones that were on the toolbar. What went wrong or what did I do wrong?

Pkshadow & cor-el,

I just rebooted my PC and restarted Firefox and my Bookmarks toolbar was there. Don't know what happened but it's there and I'm happy. Thanks anyway for your assistance.

Hi, am sure you did nothing wrong and have no idea about Firefox not playing nice. You could try mousing to the top of the browser to a empty spot and Right Click and the menu should open for the Toolbars, Click for the Check mark.

You can look in Bookmarks proper and see if a New Bookmarks Toolbar was added and that your missing one is just down the list. If so can drag and drop the old to the new.

Always make backups :

Is "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" still on the Bookmarks Toolbar?

Make sure toolbars like the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible. Open the Customize window and set what toolbars (Show/Hide Toolbars) and toolbar items to display.

  • Right-click empty toolbar area -> Customize
  • "3-bar" menu button -> Customize
  • View -> Toolbars
    *you can tap the Alt key or press the F10 key to show the hidden Menu Bar temporarily
  • check that "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • if "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the Customize palette to the Customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • if missing items are in the Customize palette then drag them back from the Customize window to the toolbar
  • if you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the Customize palette then click the Restore Defaults button in the Customize palette window to restore the default toolbar set.

Cor-el,

I tried your first suggestion and it did not fix my issue.

I'm sorry but I did not understand your next two suggestions. May I have a bit more clarification?

Thanks,

Hi, ok well when open Bookmarks there should be a folder called Bookmarks Toolbar. This is where those bookmarks are stored when you drag URL's to the Bookmark Bar. Each install over top of Firefox will create a new folder, I have about 10. I keep them as is interesting to see what was important to me at that time.

So I just suggest you do this as something is not hooked up properly in code. Install over top : https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

So can then drag URL's to the Bookmark Bar or to the Bookmark Toolbar Folder in Bookmarks as they are the same thing.

If that does not work : uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files , C:\Program Files(x86) & C:\ProgramData Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 59.0.2 with a Full Version Installer

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

If you open customize mode then you should see the "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" positioned on the Bookmarks Toolbar. This item is the container that stores the actual bookmarks shown in this folder and if this item isn't positioned on the Bookmarks Toolbar then you won't see any bookmarks on the Bookmarks Toolbar.
