Firefox freezing & Not shutting down completely

more options

Here is the readers digest version....For the last month, Firefox has froze up on multiple sites; with and w/o multiple tabs open; and has failed to shutdown fully. There have been times within the last 2 weeks where I would open Firefox after NOT being on for a day or two and it reloads Everything up to when I closed it, and over half the time have to click "EndTask" in task manager to close it. It's really annoying and now, with the new bug found with all the WiFi routers being vulnerable, worried I'll be hacked. Since FF is still open, I assume since it doesn't default to my home page but to the last entire session, it Must be an issue that you still haven't had addressed to your staff. As far as running in safe mode, no difference, It still restarts at times to the previous session no matter how long I've been off line and I've even disconnected the Ethernet cable for hours after I got offline to see if it helps. Even doing that, over half the time it opens to the page showing the last session and if I want to restore it. There are no virus' or trojans in my PC since have ran a full scans 2X with my MalwarebytesPRO including it's Rootkit Killer and Chameleon on top of running windows defender full scans 2X. No history of Anything getting thru. I've even gone so far as to disable every extension, plug-in, theme and add-on and turn off both my cell and laptop to see if they were somehow keeping FF open; since it's the Only browser I use across all platforms; but it doesn't change it. It's not every single time I get on that I have this issue but it's been around 70% of the time for at least the last month or so. I have Win10, Xfinity ISP, NetGear AC1750 router

Not sure if you have reviewed this general help article already: Firefox hangs or is not responding - How to fix

There have been times within the last 2 weeks where I would open Firefox after NOT being on for a day or two and it reloads Everything up to when I closed it, and over half the time have to click "EndTask" in task manager to close it.

This sounds like the normal crash recovery feature. (Whether Firefox crashes by itself or is terminated in Task Manager.) Do you want to disable crash recovery? See below the line.

It's really annoying and now, with the new bug found with all the WiFi routers being vulnerable, worried I'll be hacked.

To clarify, if you have been using an encrypted connection to your router (usually true on a home network), your HTTP sessions and your HTTPS sessions were both encrypted between your computer and your router. The vulnerability allows a hacker to read the HTTP sessions, just as though you were on the hotspot at your local coffee shop. The HTTPS connections are still encrypted between your browser and the destination website.

There are two preferences most relevant to automatic crash recovery:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste sess and pause while the list is filtered

(3) To skip automatic restore and display the "This is embarrassing" screen: Double-click the browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes preference and change the value from 1 to 0 (that's a zero) and click OK -- I use this setting to avoid potential loops of problem sites loading and causing another crash, etc.

(4) To never restore your previous session after a crash: Double-click the browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash preference to switch its value from true to false -- you might still be able to use the History menu to Restore Previous Session, but I haven't tested it myself
