Almost half the time after a fresh boot of my Windows Vista HP Notebook Firefox WILL NOT START. I get a momentary Windows "spinning circle" which disappears after 5 to 8 seconds and NO START. Repeated attempts to start Firefox has the same results. As I said, this happens about 40% of the time after FRESHLY booting my Notebook. This has been going on for the last three versions of Firefox ESR, I am using 52.1.2 (32-bit) as my Vista install is also 32-bit. I have ALL the Vista Updates from MS, I always check for new ones and BTW I am a IT Administration Manager, so I'm no "hobbyist"!

I have tried uninstalling Firefox numerous times and then reinstalling, and this includes deleting the Mozilla FireFox folder after doing an uninstall and running CCleaner Pro to delete remnant Registry entries, but the same issue persists!

I DO NOT have this issue with any other Browser on this same Notebook - Opera, Chrome or Seamonkey!! Just Firefox has this flaky issue.

What have you done to Firefox? I've never had this problem before.

Does the Firefox icon show up on the taskbar? If yes, then the Firefox window is opening outside where it can be seen.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/changes-toolbars-and-window-sizes-are-not-saved You may have corrupt xulstore.json or Localstore.rdf file.

Close Firefox. Open your file browser to this hidden location:

  • Mac: *~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles
  • Linux: *~/.mozilla/firefox/Profiles
  • Windows: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
  • *C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

Search for the above files. Then rename or delete them. Restart Firefox.

If the Firefox icon does not show, then it might be there is no access to the web.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Some problems occur when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see
