Dear community,

I just installed Thunderbird 45.2.0 in my laptop (with Windows 7). I'm trying to set up my Gmail account, but every time the answer is "configuration could not be verified - is the user name or password wrong?"

I already checked that the email, name and password are the correct ones (I logged myself in in other PCs and my name/password are working well). I already enable Google to "allow less secure apps" I've not active Google "2 step verification" ever... nevertheless, I went, double check, and is off/not active. IMAP is enabled in my Gmail I tried to setting everything up changing the authentication from the OAuth2 to Normal password in both, the incoming and outgoing, but doesn't work. I checked my antivirus (Bitdefender) and Thunderbird is in all white lists. I even turned my antirus Off completely, just in case.

Finally, I tried all the above at least twice.... and I still can't set up my Gmail into Thunderbird. Any clues? Thanks in advance guys!

To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try the following:

If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

Hi Matt, Many thanks for the help, but sadly it doesn't resolve the problem. Do you have any other idea on how to proceed? Thanks in advance!

Windows in safe mode with networking with Thunderbird in safe mode "should" clear all local blocks. You were in safe mode with networking and not safe mode yes?

Can you access the internet using your browser when in windows safe mode? I have seen some wifi adapters just stop working in that diagnostic mode.

Thanks again Matt, but no success yet. In safe mode I could access to internet and surf around... At this point I'm more curious on what is happening that looking for an actual solution.
