Close/Exit Thunderbird and Firefox browser.

Please confirm you have the following. 'Start' > 'Settings' > 'Control Panel' > 'Default programs'

  • See all three images as all need checking.

Confirm: In Firefox browser: 'Tools' > 'Options' > 'General'

  • Select 'Always check if Firefox is your default browser'

In Thunderbird: 'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Advanced' > 'General' tab System Integration

  • select: 'Always check to see if Thunderbird is the default mail client on startup'

'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Attachments' > 'Incoming' tab Is there any mention of HTTP or HTTPS in the 'Content Type column? If yes:

  • click on the associated 'Action' drop down and select 'Delete Action'
  • click on OK

When you have checked all of the above. Start Thunderbird and see if a link in an email will open in browser.

If not working: Please post an image showing the following: 'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Advanced' > 'General' tab click on 'Config Editor' button - it will say be careful :) in top search type: network.protocol Expand the window to show all the settings.

Post an image of this window showing all the network.protocol settings into this question.

What OS are you using? What version of Thunderbird ?

Hello-

Thanks for the reply. My OS is Windows 10 & TB is 38.7.

I followed each of your steps and still no joy. I am using Microsoft Edge as my Browser.

Here are the images you requested.

Thanks.

I presume you selected 'Microsoft Edge' instead of 'Firefox'.

I notice you have :

  • network.protocol-handler.warn-external.ftp; Value = True
  • network.protocol-handler.warn-external.http; Value = True
  • network.protocol-handler.warn-external.https; Value = True

Did you change these settings to 'True' ?

Suggest you change to 'False'. double click on a line to toggle the value from 'True' to 'False'. Close window click on OK

Please confirm : 'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Attachments' > 'Incoming' tab Is/was there any mention of HTTP or HTTPS in the 'Content Type column? Did you need to remove it ?

close and restart Thunderbird Test link in email. Please report back on results.

Toad-Hall-

Yes, I am using Edge right now.
"Did you change these settings to 'True' ?"

No I did not. I went ahead as per your suggestions & changed them to 'false'.

"Is/was there any mention of HTTP or HTTPS in the 'Content Type column?

Did you need to remove it ?" There was a HTTP listed & I removed it.

I closed & restarted TB, with no change in links in emails.

I suggest you actually try another browser.. Perhaps the issue is edge.

I also suggest you remove any HTTPS FTP or FTPS that may appear as well as HTTP. Most web sites these days are HTTPS not HTTP.

This is certainly the same sort of issue, but with only Microsoft products. https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/fef1e000-1052-4c94-b4a3-18975a380cd1/hyperlinks-do-not-work-with-edge-as-default-browser?forum=win10itprogeneral

Hi Matt-

I have actually tried several other browsers, including Firefox, and none of them are cooperating. As far as the HTTPS FTP or FTPS listings, there are none under the Content Type.

By the way, I have Thunderbird on my Desktop & my wife's laptop and neither of them have this issue...

I am having the same problem with Win 7 Ultimate and Thunderbird 45.1.1. no url links call Firefox 46.0.1. I have tried all the suggestions including network.protocol. The list is attached. I can see the link and copy it when the mouse pointer is hovering over the link but clicking it does nothing.

if safe mode in Thunderbird does nothing the problem is outside Thunderbird. Perhaps a corrupt profile in Firefox. But if you want support use your own question, not piggy back anothers
