Past few weeks FFOX and TBIRD flip screens randomly. Win XP. Is there a fix? Only happens when both are running, but no other active screens are affected.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

Can you give more details and clarify what you mean with "FFOX and TBIRD flip screens randomly"?

Do you mean that when you are in one application that the other gets focus (i.e. is no longer in the background)?

If Tbird is on-screen and FFox running in background, suddenly FFox comes to foreground overlaying Tbird. Moving cursor around screen will reveal some of the Tbird screen, but usually quickest recovery is to minimize then maximize desired screen of the two. Will check if it misbehaves in vice-versa mode, (FFox running, Tbird overlaying FFox), and report back.

A possible cause is that Firefox uses plugins that take the focus.

Are there tabs open that use plugins or play media files when this happens?

You can check for issues caused by plugins and set plugins to "Ask to Activate" on the "Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins" page.

  • plugins are not affected by Firefox Safe Mode

First, thank you for the reply! Tested with only the two applications running, (no other tabs open), with same occasional 'focus swapping'. Disabled 'OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems ' as it was only plugin not set to 'Ask". Situation seems the same... Further suggestions? Thanks again...
