just installed thunderbird. transferred details from our old email eudora. everything works fine, except when we receive links to websites in emails we receive we are not able to click on them to be transferred for viewing to the website that it is supposed to access. Something to do with initial set-up, is it? Don't see any field that says "click here to activate html" or "http or https". What are we doing wrong?

start with View -> Message Body As -> Original HTML if that doesn't do it, come back.

did not work. also tried the other two - simple html and text - negative results.

Look at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/remote-content-in-messages for settings which affect that. Also, make sure that your browser is set as the default browser.

Let me know.

Just see if the url is correct. set view / toolbars /status bar on. Mouse over link should give you the url. does it look correct? if so right click and copy link location. paste it into your browser. does it open? Open tools /option / attachments and check that html etc will open in Firefox or IE

thats what we have been doing during these difficult times!! copy url from source page and paste into address field in browser. with eudora all we had to do was click on highlighted word/link in incoming email and we would be taken directly to browser (chrome), without having to go to trouble of copy-n-paste. tools/option/attachment shows blank...thanks ur assist

Try this; create or find a html-page on your pc send it to yourself as an attachment right click on the attachment and open it

select to open it with your standard browser (Firefox) and check "do this automatically...."
