and sometimes the (vertical) Scroll bar does the same trick, as well as the auto hide taskbar. In submenus, where I'm asked to pick 1 out of many, the same happen. When I have made at pick, it unmarks in at split secund, unless I move away quickly. Submenues fired too, until I searched and found a solution to that single issue. But the fundamental/generall behaviour persists. What ever it is - . But strangely - lucky me - I can rest the pointer on Buttons, without it firing off by itself. Excuse me if my english seems strange. I'm danish. In my experience, the 'jumping cursor' with a life of its own, is a seperate issue. Googled a solution that works. There are several possibilities.

1) Your mouse buttons

2) The computer touch pad

3) It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or even add / mal-ware. Look thru your add-ons list and make sure you know what each one is there for. Also, Windows > Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Go thru the list and use a web search to check any that you don't know what they are.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
