how to limit preferences and cookies to a single window

more options

I know I saw a way to limit any changes I make for ONE window (e.g., new cookies accepted, scrolling resized fonts, etc) be limited to that ONE window. As it is, I get 10 to 20 tabs or windows simultaneously refreshing and triggering unwelcome launches of multiple paused videos, resizing, losing cursor placement on multiple articles, or erasing half-completed input boxes. It's mayhem and RIDICULOUS.

One would think Moz Support would offer a clear step-by-step guide to accomplish this. Hope someone can help in plain English. Thanks!

My next Santa Wish - how to disable Fuzzy Search Results when using the Search Moz Support field. This sort of result response is ABSOLUTELY USELESS: "Found 1000 results for how to limit preferences and cookies to a single window in English"

You would have to launch Firefox with multiple profiles to achieve this, but that is probably only acceptable for two or three windows at most.

You can use an extension to have a separate set of cookies, but other preferences will work on all windows.

Firefox should only load the current tab (and possible pinned tabs) on startup and open the rest only if you select them.

  • Tools > Options > Tabs: Don’t load tabs until selected

If restore_on_demand is set, pinned tabs are restored on startup by default.
When set to true, the restore_pinned_tabs_on_demand pref overrides that behavior, and pinned tabs will only be restored when they are focused.

I really appreciate your reply, cor-el. Sadly, none of those are palatable workarounds. I almost always have 10 to 20+ windows or tabs active when I go surfing/researching, thus ensuring FF will remain a royal pain in the ###. That may be enough to drive me back to IE even as I was finally, slowly and begrudgingly getting comfortable with tabs and certain other irritating FF idiosyncrasies like the inane and cryptic way they store and name temp files. At least there's an plug-in that actually allows us to find and view downloaded images and other temp files, though with each new version some add ons or plug ins break. Happy Holidays.
