Restoring tabs from cache? (stop tabs from RELOADING FRESH CONTENT. Save bandwidth, open faster)
It's all in the question.
My isp is sloooow! It takes 30 minutes to restore all of my tabs fresh, when most pages are static. It's a waste of bandwidth.
I often have 50 tabs open, things I am referring back to, but do not need reloaded. How can I make firefox save this content to my cache, so when I restart the browser or computer, I can have my tabs opened again in a hurry, without having the bandwidth crushed? I restart the browser or computer several times a day, but really, do I need my wiki pages refreshed, or a map I have open, etc?
I think it's great that firefox can save my tabs, and I have a session-restore extension, but what I really need is a way to save my online content...?

Have you tried to increase your cache size? Remeber the max is 2GB. Also, make sure you update Firefox to 16.0.2.
Ah, I forget how to increase cache. I'll update to firefox 16.0.2 once I figure this out, or move over to Opera, but I LIKE Firefox!

Did you check that you aren't using Clear history to clear the cache when you close Firefox?
- Tools > Options > Privacy : History: [X] Clear history when Firefox closes > Settings

Firefox will probably check on the server if the pages were modified and that can take time.
Firefox will only restore/load pages if you switch to a tab if this choice is checked off.
- Tools > Options > Tabs: Don’t load tabs until selected
To increase cache size, click the orange Firefox button, then options, then advanced, then network. You can tweak your cache sizes there. Id update immediately, as not only is Firefox 9 very insecure, 16 is much faster overall. It wont make your isp faster, but it will help make pages load faster, etc

Okay, now that my cache is doubled in size, how is this going to help me with having my tabs loading from my hd instead of the internet?
I use a several java calculators, engineering tools, etc, and they don't need to refresh. I can refresh my news and email tabs manually, heck, I do that anyway.
My problem is that my bandwidth is limited, and I also have to restart a couple times a day, because Windows7 isn't any better than XP when it comes to crap running in the background even though you closed it, soaking up cpu and memory.

Okay, I have updated to Firefox 16-2. Still won't fix my problem. Still loads from internet all my tabs, hogging bandwidth for nearly an hour before everything is finished.
You want to turn on this setting:
tool > options > tabs > "don't load until selected"
With this, tabs will be refreshed only when selected.
Still, the cache is not used....

The cache should be used to load pages unless there is possibly some no cache directly on the cache is cleared on shutdown or otherwise (security, cleanup software), but Firefox may contact the website to check for changes. I personally would wish that you could disable this because it even doesn't reload tabs from the server (hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/summary) if I select Reload All Tabs, only going to the tab and refresh via F5 or Ctrl+F5 works to get the current content.
You can also check the setting of the browser.cache.check_doc_frequency pref (may not apply to startup)
My security software does not automatically clear the cashe.
Imagine this: I'm at home, I have 5 tabs open, 3 tabs have java-script engineering calculator, 2 tabs have engineering charts. I turn off my laptop, take it to construction site, boot-up, and discover there is no internet/wifi. How do I bring up those pages with no internet available. How do I now access those pages? Is there a way to store them? I don't need to refresh, I'm not looking at breaking news, just static pages.

In your situation, why do you turn your laptop off? Why not just close the lip, let it go to sleep, move to your location, then open it back up? That would be simpler so long as you have a battery.

This is ridiculous. We now have terabytes of hd storage, gigabytes of RAM, quad processors...
Yet, we can't save a webpage for viewing when offline?
I'm using Windows 7, and it's optimized every-which-way, yet I still find myself having to restart it at least once a week, due to all the ghost/programs that keep running even when I manually close them out in Task Manager.
When, I restart, I have load all my favorite reference tabs. When I was burning down the internet hwy at a trillion bytes per nano-second, it didn't much matter. But now, due to poverty, I am back to a dial-up connection.
Reloading static pages no longer makes any sense. (Updating firefox with each new weekly iteration is also a pain-in-the-arse. I will update soon, promise.)
I must be stoopid, because this seems really simple, but I'm not gettin' it.
