Firefox crashes
Problem: frequent, random browser crashes when running Windows 7 (Professional; SP1), in both its 64-bit and 32-bit versions.
I can usually get the browser to "restore previous session", but sometimes the crashes are so close together that it can't reliably save the information. I've checked the first 10 pages (out of 120) in the Help articles that mention Firefox crashes, but can't yet find anything that seems close to my problem. Sometimes I can go for days with no crash; a few days ago it crashed nearly 15 times in as many minutes!
The problem has persisted through several version updates of the browser, and seems not to depend on the mode of the OS (32-bit/64-bit). (By the way, I use [the latest] Thunderbird for e-mail, and it also crashes, though not nearly as frequently as the browser.)
I suppose that there might be some subtle bug in my copy of the Windows 7 install files, or even in my motherboard, but I note that I had no such crash problems when I was running Windows XP Pro (SP3) on this same PC.
Is this a known issue with Win7 in general? If so, is there thought to be a good chance of fixing it?
Many thanks, Stuart Herring ("Silverhill")

Hi Stuart,
no doubt you have already read the article firefox crashes including the troubleshooting suggestions.
Have you tried
- starting in firefox's safemode
no need to make changes at checklist dialogue Window, just click on continue- use only the default theme
- disable all plugins whilst in safe mode
- creating and using a new clean profile
(That can be done with a few mouse clicks now on Firefox 14)- see basic troubleshooting_8-make-a-new-profile
You may also need to consider the possibility of malware see

There is also a possibility that interactions with security software causes problems, and possibly that would need temporarily uninstalling rather than disabling to test. As you get very frequent crashes maybe the safest method is to run full multiple scans then uninstall whilst offline and see if Firefox crashes offline. (Test it first, does it still crash when used offline)
