I'm getting the error message mentioned in this:

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/896165

It's this message, while trying to import html bookmarks: chrome://browser/content/places/editBookmarkOverlay.js:971

This is on a clean 8.0.1 installation on an XP system. I can't import my bookmarks and there is nothing to restore. I created a new profile, just in case, but the problem exists on both of them.

Any advice would be appreciated, as I've been laboring away for hours without success.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, but as I mentioned, I made a new profile and even after disabling ZoneAlarm completely, I still get an error (the latest was: chrome://browser/content/places/editBookmarkOverlay.js:971) and Firefox freezes. None of the other links have lead me to a solution.

Can you open that HTML file in Firefox via "File > Open File" or "Firefox > New Tab > Open File"?

Cor-el, yes, I can; no problem, but I can't import it through "Bookmarks>Show All Bookmarks>Import and Backup>Import Bookmarks from HTML."
