Well by looking at other posts it DOES NOT , this is always an issue with updates, when are you going to realize this and address it before you release a new update.

How hard would it be to shoot Symantic an email telling them your releasing an update so they can make a minor change in their script to allow it BEFORE you release it.

Until Norton updates the add-on to be compatible with Firefox 6, you can use the Add-on Compatibility Reporter to try re-enabling it yourself.

Again, this is a KNOWN issue for updates . So why not DO something about it BEFORE the release ???

You would think that because this is a release day there would be some people from Firefox monitoring the forums....

After making a LiveUpdate from Norton 360, and starting my Computer new, i don't have the problem anymore. The Norton tool bar works fine now with FF 6.0.

Have you tried this already?

While this was fixed quickly by Norton, it still should not be an issue at all (see above for why) .

Would not have been an issue had Norton released their update/announcement a little earlier; on the page that I posted it shows "08-16-2011 01:20 PM". Firefox 6's first beta was released 5 weeks, 6 days ago, 07/06/2011, so Norton must have waited until very late in the game to start and/or test any necessary revisions to their product.

Hi, I'm a Firefox developer. I agree that this is a problem that needs to be fixed. We've already taken some steps to improve it, like automatically updating add-ons that are distributed through Mozilla's web site. However, we aren't able to force people to update add-ons that they distribute themselves. We have more work to do to improve this, including reaching out to companies like Norton to encourage them to test and update their add-ons sooner, and making it easier to keep add-ons working in Firefox even when their developers haven't tested them yet.

At least Norton had an update ready on the day that both Firefox 5 and 6 were released, unlike what happened with both Firefox 3.6 and Firefox 4 when it took them 6 to 8 weeks to have an updated version ready for their Firefox users. Now all they need to do is install the update without any user intervention required.

Agreed the-edmeister, 6 to 8 weeks is ridiculous, it is good they got this one out the same day , that IS an improvement  !

With a major Firefox release cycle of less than three months, add-on developers (even big corps like Norton) are going to be hard pressed to keep up, what with the growing multitude of browsers out there. Even Norton has to keep costs down too.

My Norton Toolbar works with my computer that has Vista32 bit, but it will not work with my computer that has Windows 7 64bit. I've tried the patches and updates on the Win7 computer to no avail.

I still have the problem - what am i doing wrong?

I followed the instructions. (Run live update, reboot.) I then asked it to install Firefox 6.0 and it said that Norton toolbar was not compatible.

However when I bit the bullet and installed Firefox 6.0, the toolbar (2011.7.1.3) did work OK, and wasn't reported as incompatible.

It was working for awhile, but in the past week - guessing - I'd say the Norton "patch" to the toolbar does not now work and I do have the latest Norton version and Vista.

In short, is the Norton Toolbar Compatible?

IMHO - NO!!!!

I'm going to disable it. And, yes, I do know how to use the Task Manager, but who needs that additional hassle?

OK, so I'm updating this so that my reply can be called "Helpful" or not after a suggestion from Mozilla or whomever.

A word about Norton: A couple of years ago a Norton 360 update blew my CD driver software - so I thought - so that I could not even find Disk E: on Windows Explorer. I can't tell you how many Symantec techies did this that and the other thing, with no answer. So I called Dell. Their technician said, here's what you do: AND IT WAS A REGISTRY EDIT that was required to fix it. The update blew the registry entry for the CD-DVD. Symantec did eventually fix it but not via an update but a download. I spent hours on that. I'll never forget that one.

OK. So the Norton Toolbar, which is no loss to me and Identity Safe is a pain although I liked the Website check feature, did work, as I wrote above, until this past week. Then yesterday and today, loading Firefox was a no go until I fiddled with clearing caches etc. So I looked in the forum, and here we are.

Symantec, consider a registry fix (?). Norton tries to be all things to all OS's - Windows, Vista this and that - always difficult. Norton 360 has been greatly streamlined and improved but is still labyrinthine.

Well I have been running 3.6 and today took the plunge and updated to Firefox 7 - PERFECT, Norton toolbar there, Nectar toolbar there, I did not have to do anything else - Phew
