I have just had the same issue after upgrading from snow leopard to Lion Mac OS x 10.7 with firefox 5.0.1... Not sure why as the Browser didn't change. I was also annoyed by the change in two finger trackpad scroll direction which I discovered was configurable by un-checking [System Preferences>Hardware>Trackpad<scroll&zoom>scroll direction:neutral].

Correction for the trackpad pinch zoom issue was a little more complex, you will need to re-configure firefox as follows:

  1. in the firefox url type >about:config >and press return accepting the warning
  2. Ctrl F should bring up a search box, type >browser.gestures
  3. either double click or right click to modify the following with these values:
  1. browser.gesture.pinch.in -> cmd_fullZoomReduce
  2. browser.gesture.pinch.in.shift -> cmd_fullZoomReset
  3. browser.gesture.pinch.out -> cmd_fullZoomEnlarge
  4. browser.gesture.pinch.out.shift -> cmd_fullZoomReset

All should start working immediately without the need to restart Firefox. I don't think the zoom is as smooth as it was before....

Hope this helps someone... Oops forgot number 5 and corrected a spelling error....

This FIX (See attached SCREENSHOT Image) seems to be working for most users: Type the following into the address bar: about:config

Then use the filter (top left side) and type the word, Gesture.

Make the following changes to the following 2 fields:

  1. Numbered list itembrowser.gesture.pinch.in ~ enter the field and change the value to, itemcmd_fullZoomReduce
  2. Numbered list itembrowser.gesture.pinch.out ~ enter the field and change the value to, cmd_fullZoomEnlarge

These changes should immediately restore the pinch gestures you are used to. Try it as soon as you make the changes and let us know. I've included a screenshot.

Note the changes in the 2 lines Hi-Lighted in Green and make them. This immediately worked for me. Good luck.

The zoom works fabulously, but the shrink doesn't work at all. I'm now looking at a really blown up version of this page. Any help would be appreciated! Here's what I typed in (attached).
