Uninvited website opened a window and will not let me close it without accessing the site. (http://visitors-survey.com/promo/us/survey.php)
I received four (4) mails from friends with no subject, no message and a link to a php address. I did not link but replied to each warning them they may have a bug. Later I noticed I had a window pop up with http://visitors-survey.com/promo/us/survey.php at the top. I can not close it. I have many tabs open and with the new firefox it is difficult to be selective when you shut down and restart. How can I rid myself of the offending window

Generally speaking, you can close the front-most tab or window using the keyboard combination command+w (although there might be a possibility this could be hijacked by the web page).
I've tried that a number of times. The message in the window is,
"Congratulations! You just won a new Apple ® iPad 2! You have 4 minutes to redeem your prize!"
When I try to close a message,
'Are You Sure' This page is asking you to confirm that you want to leave - data you have entered may not be saved.
The choice is 'Stay on page' or 'Leave Page'. Leave page just returns to original Lucky Winner message
Hopefully a Mac user can provide further suggestions.
It could be an onunload or onbeforeunload command which keeps sending you back to the same page again. If you disable Javascript, maybe you can close that tab or window. Clear the history in Firefox, and that should get rid of that page for good. Disable Javascript from Preferences > Content > Enable Javascript. It is a good idea to read all email as plain text, so that unwanted code does not get executed from rendering of HTML.
Please report misuse of the Firefox trademark in websites using the Mozilla's Violating Website Report page and in emails by forwarding them to Mozilla's abuse email.
