Firefox is claiming that the site 'wimdu' holds an untrsuted connection. However, I think this may be a misunderstanding and therefore I suggest you work with this site to find out wheather ot not it is trusted. The reason I believe it could be a misunderstanding is due to the information provided as the problem is that firefox says that the site does not hold a suitable certificate but the site 'www.wimdu.com' does. I understand that this website is used around the world which is partly why I am confused as firefox says the '.co.uk' site can not be trusted. I have coopied some of the informaion provided by mozilla :

You have asked Firefox to connect securely to www.wimdu.co.uk, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.

Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified.

www.wimdu.co.uk uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is only valid for the following names:

 *.wimdu.com , wimdu.com

(Error code: ssl_error_bad_cert_domain)

In addition, this information is shown when I click 'Book it' on the site of wimdu.co.uk. Please sort this out and notify me about wheather or not I can trust this website with issues regarding money.

Just a comment about domain names:

There is absolutely no reason why it is valid to believe that the domains wimdu.co.uk and www.wimdu.com are owned by the same person or company.

Perhaps they are, but just because part of the name is the same does not mean the domains are related.

There are sites named www.god.net www.god.org and www.god.net but they are not related to each other.

NEVER assume because part of domain names are the same, that they are the same company.

Would you think that www.wimdu.com and www.wimdu.net were the same?

Don't!

As for this forum telling you whether or not you can trust that site, we can't.

You will have to do some searching (use Google) to see if you can find anyone who has commented about the domain names, that is, if anyone has any solid information about the sites.

ONE LAST, BUT VERY IMPORTANT THING - at the beginning of your question, you have:

"Firefox is claiming that the site 'wimdu' holds an untrsuted[sic] connection."

wimdu is not the full name of any site. It could be the first part of a domain name but it is not a web site name by itself.

Domain names are never one word. They always have .com, .net, .org, .co.uk, etc. at the end of the name.

superwebsite would not be a domain name. superwebsite.com would be a full name but also would superwebsite.org and YOU CANNOT ASSUME THEY ARE OWNED BY THE SAME PERSON OR COMPANY.

Security certificates are issued to domains not ones which have similar names unless the person applying for the certificate requested multiple domain names.

If the certificate does not apply to a particular domain name, regardless of how close the name is to one that the certificate does apply - then it does not apply to that name.

In your case, perhaps the domain names are owned by the same company, but you should never assume such based on similarity of names.

The site owner has opted to register anonymously which isn't a good sign. Here is the domain record: http://whois.domaintools.com/wimdu.co.uk Any bona fide company wouldn't do this.

Generally speaking though, if you pay by credit card, you're protected under the Consumer Protection Act against fraudulent transactions.
