A server that uses JSP ( which stands for Java Server Pages) is supposed to send them to Firefox with a content-type indicating that they are regular HTML pages. It sounds as though the site is not doing that. That's just a guess.

You can also try to reload such web pages and bypass the cache.

• Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
• Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
• Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)

• "Clear the Cache": Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
• "Remove the Cookies" from sites causing problems: Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Thank you both for responding! Actually what I am dealing with are two retailers. I elected paperless billing from both. When I go on their websites and try to view my statements, I get a download of a .jsp file, which I cannot open. This is terribly frustrating as I really don't want to have to waste resources on paper bills.

I assume the file is actually a PDF. If you set Firefox to ask you where to download files, you also could change the name to end with .pdf so it is associated with your favorite PDF reader.

Not sure why the downloads are not named to match the intended reader. If there are spaces in the file name, I've noticed that can cause part of the name and the file extension to drop off.

If that's the situation (you could compare by accessing the site using Safari), the retailers might be encouraged to update their scripts.

Thank you so much! I changed the file extension to .PDF and voila, I am in. I was almost ready to resort to the dreaded paper bills, so thank you for saving a few extra trees today!
